Description:

1950 GMC 300-Series Tow Truck with Vintage Holmes Wrecker Body.
I am selling my 1950 GMC Tow Truck because I found a 1959 Chevy Tow Truck that I am buying. I specialize in 1955-1959 Chevy and GMC trucks and the new tow truck will be a better fit for my business. I paid $4, 000. for it two years ago and may be taking a loss listing it at $3500, but it is a neat old truck and deserves to go to a home where someone will give it the attention it deserves.
I will start off with the bad. This truck will need the floor replaced from in front of the seat to the toe-board. I did put a 6-volt battery out of my tractor in it when I first got it and was able to get it running, but to be completely honest, it did not run all that well. I had to leave the choke on, and I suspect that is because it was taking air in between the carburetor and the intake due to a dried out base gasket.
Good news is that it did not smoke or make any unpleasant noises. The old GMC 6-cylinder actually sounds kind of neat. That said, it is a 65 year old engine and I recommend a rebuild so that you do not damage it. This truck is being sold in non-running condition, but it is absolutely 100% complete except for a battery. The floor is the only serious rust area. The fenders are very solid. The door bottoms have minor rust around the drain holes, but are very solid compared to most doors I have seen on the 47-55 first-series trucks. Roof and firewall are very solid. The drivers side cab corner has a little rust just starting, but the passengers side looks pretty solid. The Holmes wrecker body is very solid. There is a very large storage compartment with a lid that lifts up with a latch behind the cab. It is a twin-boom wrecker and the booms swing out over the sides. Very versatile. There are a couple bent pieces on the the rigging that will need to be straightened out, but work fine the way they are. All of the glass is good. The seat has a couple tears, but is very comfortable. Seat springs and frame are in very good condition. The Chrome grill is in very good overall condition. No missing emblems. This is a very neat Vintage Tow Truck that gets a lot of attention. I have people stop by often wanting to take pictures in front of it with their kids. In December, we put Lights on it and it looks amazing at night. It would be very awesome to see this old thing hauling an antique car or truck down the road. I do have a clean, clear title for it, as well as the keys. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, or contact me if you want to come and check it out prior to bidding. Please do not be like the person who outbid everyone on this tow truck 4-days ago. Haven't heard from them since they asked for my bank account information. Please only bid on this truck if you seriously intend to follow through on your purchase and can actually do it without needing my personal financial information, because I don't give that out. Paypal or a REAL cashier's check are acceptable. The truck or title will not go anywhere until full payment has been made. I have no problem storing the truck at no cost until you can arrange shipping. I do require a Paypal deposit within 48 hours of auction end to make sure the winning bidder is legit. Thank you for looking.
