When we build these trucks in our shop we have four goals in mind:
#1. Make them turn heads.
#2. Make them reliable for years to come.
#2. Make a truck you can drive on the street everyday and be comfortable in with no worries.
#4. Make it affordable for you now, with a great resale value down the road.
About this build. ....
This was one of the most fun builds we have done! The International was found about 10 minutes away sitting on a farm and had been parked for almost 30 years. If you look at the pictures close you will see it has Farm Truck actually stenciled on the doors, so this is the theme we went with. It's a 1948 International (IHC) KB-2 Truck otherwise know as a Cornbinder. When we got it in the shop we knew it had to have a Cummins powerplant and a dually rear end to make it as tough as it was built 67 years ago. Once this was determined, the hunt was on for the right donor truck for the drive-train. We had 4 requirements for the drive-train: be a 12v Cummins, have a 4-speed automatic transmission, be 2-wheel drive, and of course a dually rear end. You know how hard it is to find a 2-wheel drive up in the Northwest? We finally found one up near the Canada border above Spokane and went and brought it home. It was a 1992 Dodge W350 with 186, 000 miles on the clock. It ran perfect, had a newer injection pump, the tranny had been gone through, but it needed over $1500 in front end suspension and steering work. The old boy just wasn't willing to spend the money on it, and we weren't going to use the front end anyways. Perfect!! I have put about 400 miles on it since completed and am averaging around 26mpg. The engine is totally stock with 186, 000 miles on it and could easily be pushed to over 300hp for under $600. This is the beauty of the 12 Valves. ..
The IHC truck bed was cut down to 62, the Z frame was all fabricated out of 2x4x.188 steel except the bottom main rails which are 2x5x.188 for added strength from the Cummins torque. All joints are gusseted and fishplated for strength. We have over 15lbs of welding wire in the frame! The front axle is out of a 1973 Dodge Class A motorhome. Both front and rear 4-link setups are fully adjustable with about 6 degrees caster on the front axle. Here are some of the things done to it:
Brand new wiring harness front to rear.
Full 3/8 line airbag setup (main frame rails will lay on the ground or raise to about 4. We run it around about 2-3 off the ground).
York 210 engine driven compressor for the 3 gallon air tank (this would actually run an impact wrench with an external port).
Brand new front tires
Bomber seats in the cab that are actually very comfortable with the air ride!
Wooden bed floor removes in under a minute for easy maintenance.
Entire bed w/ stacks removes in under 10 minutes.
Brand new radiator w/ electric fan.
Power steering.
Power brakes.
Brand new 16 gallon fuel tank. (Roughly 400 miles per tank)

The Build Process
(This one has music so turn your speakers on.)
The Pros
This is a very solid truck with nothing other than surface rust for the awesome patina it has. It was a farm truck here on the west coast, so it has lived a very dry life. It had been sitting for almost 30 years in the same spot when we found it. This thing drives sweet! It goes nice and straight down the road, has very easy power steering and great braking. It's actually very comfortable to ride in with plenty of head and leg room. I wouldn't hesitate to take this thing on a 300 mile road trip doing 70mph. The Cummins always cranks over in under one revolution. The buyer will need to talk to us after the final sale because we have incorporated a couple anti-theft things into the truck for protection.
The Cons
It does not have glass in the doors and the doors do not lock. Easy fix if you want to take the time to do it in an afternoon.
We don't really like how the horseshoes turned out around the taillights, but will leave that up to the new owner to put their twist on it.
It does not have a cover over the fuel hole in the bed. Again, we will leave that up to you to be creative.
That's it! Those are the cons. .

We love giving these old trucks a second life
and our 100% feedback shows we try to be upfront and very honest about
everything throughout the entire sale process. This is how we get referrals
from you and keep our doors swinging. This is just a good solid truck that has a bit
of an attitude. It runs great, looks great, rides great, sounds great and
should make someone a very reliable ride for years to come that will get tons
of compliments and head-turns, but also hold its value. These old trucks won’t go down in
value over the years. Drive it for 10 years and sell it for what you paid for
it or more. It’s a win, win!
