For sale: Arizona rust free survivor Scout Rallye, single family owned till 2015 and garage stored it's entire life. All docs including original window sticker, warranty papers, application for title, and receipts. Loaded with every option including A/C, tilt, cruise, AM/FM, etc- original cost was just under $9, 300! Ordered new by a wealthy retiree for use as his winter rig in AZ, and passed on to his nephew who I purchased it from earlier this year. Lifelong AZ vehicle till a couple years ago when the nephew brought it to the high desert of MT, and mostly stored it. The word survivor is frequently abused here on Ebay, and adjectives like amazing, incredible and pristine are hurled about often. This is the real deal. It is astonishingly clean and original for a vehicle of this age. I am an engineer by vocation but have a keen interest in vintage trucks and 4x4s, and own a large collection of same. Since I'm not Jay Leno, occasionally I have to sell one, and sometimes, it's a once-in-a lifetime rig. I've been in the hobby for 35 years, and have never seen one like this. It is truly a time capsule. Only selling because I have a very low mile orange 72 K5 Blazer that already covers this niche. I'll do my best to describe this Scout below, and I'll try to limit the superlatives and let the vehicle speak for itself. No detailing has been done, no spray paint, no undercoating, this is an honest rig, what you see here is an unrestored survivor. Still has factory markings on frame, under hood and in door jambs.
Exterior: Mostly original paint with good shine and it really pops. Normal scratches and chips from use. Nephew states only the top of driver side fender and tailgate area have been repainted, the latter when a careless elderly driver backed into the truck. Straight and rust free as shown in pics. Unlike most of the Scouts screaming rust free in all caps in Ebay ads, this one actually is. Garage stored since new, and never exposed to foul weather or salty roads. I took the Scout to an area show and won a first place trophy, it shows that well as a survivor. Crease in driver door could be easily fixed, probably a few hundred bucks to have that decal section removed with an eraser, the crease repaired, and a new section of decal put on. There is a dent under the rear air foil that was caused by backing into a tree branch at a campground - see link to additional pics. Decals are cracked from age as shown, but they are available if you wanted to replace them. I'd leave it, as it adds to the survivor mystique. There is a small area of the hood that is slightly discolored from a carb fire. Really can't see it unless you look at the right angle. Glass is all original including windshield and is in good condition. Few small cracks in the chrome on the grille and front bumper chrome is a bit dull. Wheels are original Rallye style and all 5 including spare are in excellent shape with no pitting.
Interior: All original and in excellent condition. Really fresh and seems new when you climb into the vehicle. I haven't seen an interior this clean in many, many years. Really nice and none of the typical moisture damage or pitting. No rodent damage or smells. All gauges, lights, heater, radio etc in good working order. Everything works but cruise and A/C. All stock save for aftermarket temp gauge installed to better monitor the desert heat. Tilt wheel is tight and not sloppy. Pretty much perfect save for very small tear on passenger seat side bolster, small cut at bottom of driver door panel, and small tear in carpet on driver side. Really, super, super nice.
Mechanical: Very good mechanical condition. As the pampered vehicle of a wealthy elderly owner, this truck was never wheeled, mudded, or hooned. Very well maintained with receipts and whatever this rig needed over the years, it got. Vehicle has not been modified in any way, even has original exhaust. Everything works except A/C and cruise. Nephew stated that A/C belt was removed because compressor was seeping oil. 345 V8 is strong and starts, runs, and drives out well. Trans shifts well and 4x4 works great. Gears are 3.54 according to tag. Typical old 4x4 minor drips on garage floor, but nothing major. As stated above, early on the rig had a carb fire that required replacing the carb and engine harness with NOS parts. Don't see any issues underhood other than cosmetic, a couple of rubber grommets that are melted. I've been driving it and it really is smooth, tight, and nice. Doesn't heat, and I can't see anything that needs attention besides A/C and cruise if you want them working.
Pricing/Misc: Tried looking for comparable Scouts, but I couldn't find anything close. There's one plain-jane pea green one up on Ebay now with an obvious fresh re-spray on the rockers for $18, 900. My reserve is way, way below that. IMHO, this is the one to have - color, year , unrestored originality , and condition make it maybe the best one available in years, and another comparable one is not likely anytime soon. I will be adding pics to the link below as my internet connection allows. Remember, this is an old vehicle, and even though there are no known issues, stuff happens with old rigs. If you haven't fooled with old vehicles before, adjust your expectations accordingly. Thanks and good luck!
