This is a low miles well cared for Functional Fire Fighter. All Wheel Drive. 5 speed (1st gear is granny), will climb anything even @ 11, 000+ pounds dry. Several hundred gallon water tank, PTO pump, 4 hoses: 2 reels on back, one each in side compartments. Seats 5 with seat belts.
No rust. Siren and lights work. Speedo works. Prior owner thought it read 2, 000 miles low as it was inoperable for a time. Mileage believed original as indicated on the odometer (+ 2000). No smoke, starts right up (304 V8). Just resealed the valve covers so it is mostly leak free. Brakes are strong, and the MICO locks all the brakes down for fire operations. 2 Fuel tanks.
Was fire attack hot/shot crew truck. Built on a new chassis as a Hale built fire truck for the U.S. Forest Service (tag still on dash) and then used by Portola Fire Department (north of Lake Tahoe) thereafter. Retired a few years ago. It is titled as a 1962 which was actually the first year of the IHC Loadstar models. Since this is a B-160 my guess is that is it really a 1961 that was not completed and outfitted by Hale, and titled, until 1962.
I have maintained it well for last 3 years, over $4500 in receipts, but since it is 55 years old, it is being SOLD AS-IS, NO WARRANTY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
I have documents from my purchase, and receipts for the work done since I have had it. Major items:
1. 4 new rear tires $1293
2. New muffler $ 420
3. Replace MICO with new $ 594
4. Transfer Case Seal $ 265
5. Remedy Dash Lighting Issues/all bulbs $ 165
6. Tune Up, starting issues, carb float, etc $ 604
7. Valve Cover Gaskets $ 288
8. Banjo Bolt for Brake fitting leak $ 113
9. Add Block Heater and Battery Tender $ 199
10. Reseal
Carb due to drying out $ 303 (includes mechanic travel time)
DO NOT BID IF YOU HAVE A NEGATIVE RATING OR ZERO ACTIVITY!

“This is a 55 year old low miles functional and original fire brush truck. It does not have front unlocking hubs so in AWD it can be difficult to pull it back out. Some of the plumbing for the pump outputs to the hoses can be a bit weepy, nothing that affects performance or use. Lots of holes from the removal of the communications equipment when it was retired. Overall in nice original condition and starts and runs well. As with all the Internationals I have owned, it will rarely not engage the starter with the ignition switch. That is why there is a starter lead bracket on the passenger inner fender, so it can bypass the ignition and solenoid. Just touch the two front poles with a screwdriver and it starts direct. Probably added by the fire department. Have had to use it about 4 times in 3.5 years. A great piece of equipment, does what it should for its time. The rear gauge sets are not reliable, I use the ones in the cab. The original emergency brake is not used, MICO is.” |
