For sale: 66 International Harvester Travelall western high desert rig that's complete and running/driving, use as is till you can restore. Travelall 4x4s are rare and difficult to find, much more so than a comparable Scout. This truck was special ordered by a doctor for elk hunting Montana's Bitteroot Valley with factory/dealer PTO Ramsey winch setup, V8, 4 speed trans, posi rear end, dual tanks, and power steering and brakes. It was subsequently sold to a local couple, who owned it for the last 15 years - I bought it from them, the second owners. They got the original purchase paperwork and order sheet, but were unable to locate it when I picked up the rig. If they find it I will forward along to the winning bidder.
Exterior: Truck was originally white and was repainted green. Some bodywork was done, and there is some filler cracking, especially on rear and passenger rear quarter panel. Does have some minor rust, but not the sitting-on-the-bottom-of-the-lake-for-50-years rust so often seen on these. This is arid country, with little moisture and roads are not salted. We just don't see major rust or rot here. I can only see a few small areas, one hole in driver floor, bottoms of front fenders, some along bottom of rear quarters and the typical rust around front park lights and in the middle of front panel between them. Surface rust showing where filler cracked off, but doesn't appear to have been covering any major rust repairs. Hard to find glass is all good including windshield.
Interior: Original and showing sun damage but restorable as shown in pics. One headliner section is warped. Most everything seems to work, including head lights, turn signals, brake lights, wipers, heater blower motor, etc. Fuel gauge is non-op and while original radio turns on, it doesn't want to tune in a station.
Mechanical: Starts/runs/drives out well. 85k miles are original per 2nd owners. I took the truck to a professional mechanic and had it fully serviced including draining gas, fluid changes and brake/clutch adjustment. Previous owner pulled both fuel tanks and cleaned and lined them and added extra canister fuel filter under front fender. Currently running off the right side tank, haven't tried the left side. 304 V8 has no noticeable smoke/noise and clutch/trans are smooth. I've only driven the rig about 20 miles, but per previous owners there were no major issues. Winch works per PO but I didn't personally try it. Tires are older traction bias ply with great tread but have weather cracking. Heater core leaked onto passenger front floor and has been bypassed.
Pricing/Misc: I'm an engineer by vocation, with a keen interest in vintage trucks and 4x4s, and have a large collection of same. I keep an eye on prices and these Travelalls have been crazy ever since the War Wagon Travelall sold at B-J for over $100k. They are hard to find and when they do come up, they sell quickly. This complete running and driving western truck is offered as is with NO RESERVE. Reasonable transportation is available, and probably cheaper than fixing major rust on an eastern truck. After the sale, I can store the rig outside for up to 30 days free, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Title is clear and open in the name of the previous owners ready for you to fill in your name as purchaser.
