International Harvester Scout (1979)

Price: US $4,500.00
Up for sale is my 1979 International Scout 2. I bought it almost three months ago out of a barn so I am the 2nd owner. It was going to be my hobby 4X4 but alas, I don't even have time to drive it. She needs a lot of metal work but she purrs like a kitten. I've been told it has the original 304 engine. It still has all the original seats and seat belts.
The good:
I just put over 2000 dollars into the engine, tires and electrical system. I also had an engine kill switch so that it could not be stolen with out the knowledge of where it is. I still have the original tires and rims but I have new ones on it now with new tires (probably less than 100 miles on them).
The oil was changed 3 or 4 times and the intake manifold gasket was changed. Wiring was fixed so that all the lights work. Many new parts under the hood. I would trust it to drive anywhere. She shifts into 4X4 without issues and the locking hubs work great. You have to start her out in 2nd gear because 1st is really low. I found myself spinning the tires without meaning to.
New: fuses, flasher, gears lubed, oil pressure switch, coolant temp sensor, fuel seal, axle joints, u-joint, needle bearing assembly, axle seals, air filter, battery, 31X10.5/15 tires with 15 X8 black steel wheels, intake manifold gasket, valve cover gasket.
The bad:
She needs metal work all over. I have looked at replacement body panels and it looks like it can be done fairly easily. Floor pans and trunk pans need to be replaced.
The speedometer and fuel gauge do not work. The mechanic advised me that it is not the speedo or the fuel sending unit so it must be the gauges. I thought about getting some metal cut out and putting in some aftermarket gauges but I thought I would have the new owner get the one's they like.
She needs paint after metal work.
The seats are original and either need to be fixed and recovered or replaced. The good thing about these trucks are that it is really easy to pull some seats out of just about anything and putting in with some new mounts. The doors need new hardware. I open the door by pushing the driver's window down and using the latch on the outside.
Bottom line, this is a good start and a blank canvas. There are so many ways to customize this truck and make it your own. You are starting out with a great running Scout.
I am not asking for a deposit but please pay within 3 days of auction end. If I have not received payment for this item after that time period, then I will report it to Ebay and relist.
God bless.
