International Harvester Scout (1977)
for sale
Price: US $1,500.00
Price: US $1,500.00
I am relisting my 1977 Scout due to the high bidder not completing the transaction. A second chance for all you previous bidders and watchers! Please note, I previously indicated the air did not work. That was incorrect, the air is working!
Up for action is a rust free sunny
California survivor Scout delivered to and sold new in Sacramento, California. All docs including original window
sticker, warranty papers, sales brochures, and line setting ticket are
included! Loaded with every option
including A/C, tilt, cruise, AM/FM, etc- original cost was just
under $9, 100 (check out the photo of the window sticker)! The history I am
able to find indicates the Scout spent most its early life in Northern
California with a short stint in Oregon and the last 12 years in sunny Southern
California as a Photographer’s toy and prop. This Scout is a very clean well
cared for low mileage (106, 000) “Honest” rig.
Why am I selling such a rare
piece? Aside from a muscle car sickness, I have two 1st generation Broncos and several Ford Highboys. When it comes to
the 4x4s my passion is with the Fords! And when I run out of room or need to fund another project it is the
non-Ford stuff that is first to go. Since everything 4x4 I own at the moment is Ford, with the exception of
this Scout, the Scout must go!
I'll do my best to describe
this Scout. This is an honest rig, what you see here is a
survivor that has one repaint (many years ago) and the carpet replaced at some
time.
Exterior:
One older repaint with good shine. The Glacier blue really pops! Normal
scratches and chips from use. . Straight with no apparent signs of
rust. Having spent most of its life in California the Scout was not exposed to
the snow, mud, grime and road salt used elsewhere. There is a VERY minor
dent by the passenger’s taillight. It
appears to have been caused by an extremely light encounter with a pole or ???? It is almost unnoticeable. The graphics were
painted on when the Scout was repainted – no decals. The paint under the hood
is slightly discolored but all original, glass is in good condition but
there are several scratches in the rear hatch glass. Chrome is nice for its age
with the normal dings etc for a 38 year old rig . Wheels are aftermarket style
and in excellent shape with no pitting. Tires are near new Goodyear All Terrains.
Interior:
The all original (except carpet) wedgewood
blue interior is in excellent condition. Really fresh and seems new when you
climb into the vehicle. I haven't seen an interior this clean in many, many
years. Really nice with none of the typical moisture damage or pitting. No
rodent damage or smells. All gauges, lights, heater, radio etc in good working
order. Everything works but cruise and clock . All stock save for
aftermarket stereo to better enjoy the weekly countdowns on those clear
California cruise nights! Tilt wheel has some very minor slop but nothing
concerning. Pretty much perfect save for very small crack on the dash, a small
piece of the wood trim cracked off on the shifter indicator and fading of the
replacement carpet.
Mechanical:
Very good mechanical condition. As a
pampered vehicle, this truck was never 4 wheeled. Very well maintained, whatever this rig needed over the years, it got. Vehicle has not been modified
in any way, even has original exhaust with aftermarket mufflers. Everything
works except the cruise. I am not sure what is wrong with the A/C but
the Scout came to me with a new compressor in the box and that will be included
with the truck. 304 V8 is strong and starts, runs, and drives out well. Trans
shifts well and 4x4 works great. Rear-end has “optional” gear ratio and is a
locker according to line sheet and window sticker. Typical old 4x4
minor drips on garage floor, but nothing major. The brakes may be a little
glazed over from lack of use as the Scout does not meet my expectations in the
stopping department. Perhaps just a
Scout thing but??? Doesn't heat, and
I can't see anything that needs attention besides A/C and cruise if you want
them working.
Pricing/Misc:
Tried looking for
comparable Scouts and found the following. An orange Rallye in similar
condition sold a month or so ago for close to $20, 000. Currently there is a
restored (there only original once) Glacier Blue Rallye on Ebay that has bid up
over $28, 000 with the reserve not met! My reserve is well below these prices.
As is
the case with all my vehicle sales, once the auction closes I will take the Scout
in for a full service (engine, differentials and trans) and final inspection to
make certain no gremlins have taken up residency since its last visit with the mechanic. IF ANY issues are discovered over and above
what was previously disclosed they will be taken care of by me at no cost to
the buyer
You
will be hard pressed to find another Scout in this condition with all the
documentation that is included. If you
are in the market for a Scout this sunny Southern California survivor should be
considered!
Happy
bidding. Feel free to call Dean at
661-703-8402 with any questions.
