1947 International KB-5 Twin turbo Cummins Rat Rat
I bought this KB-5 in September 2013 in Lapine, Oregon. It lived its life with a 14' flat bed on it, hauling hay. I saw this truck and immediately knew that was the one I wanted to build.
The frame is all hand built out of 2x4x3/16 tubing. It is on air ride all 4 corners, rear is 4 linked , front is trailing arm with my own custom suspension design. Steering is a push/pull style steering, using a toyota 4x4 steering box. The front axle is a mid 60s international 8 lug I beam, which i converted to disk brakes and fully rebuilt with new king pins, wheel bearings, seals, calipers, rotors, brake hoses, hiem joint steering ends and wheel studs. The rear end is a Dana 70 3.55 gears out of a 1991 dodge ram, that has all new seals, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and full synthetic oil. Tires are 315/75x16 on steels wheels front and back. The rear of course you will notice is duals, they have custom 2.5 aluminum spacers between the wheels which are hub centric.
Now for the motor it is out of a 1996 Dodge pick up. It is a 12 Valve Cummins, 215 injection pump, cut fuel plate, afc housing adjusted and foot modified, external areomotive adjustable fuel reg, timing is set at *15.5, 4k gov springs, the motor has 8, 000 miles on fresh rebuild, has all new bearings , seals, pistons, rings, etc. The transmission is a nv4500 fully rebuilt syncros and bearings at same time of motor, amsoil full synthetic oil is used in transmission. In front of the transmission is a 550 hp single disk southbend clutch. Radiator is a aluminum 3 core with a 2750 cfm electric fan.
Interior, seats are out of a 1999 Honda prelude. Which are very comfortable and covered with custom seat covers made by my wife out of my old work jeans and real us mint money bags from a friend of ours that works at a local bank. All gauges which are auto meter sport comp consist of oil pressure, water temp, egt and boost gauges for each turbo. Air ride can be adjusted each corner through manual padels mounted on bottom of dash. Individual gauges for rear bag pressures also. Air compressor is an electric viair 480 and tank is 25 gallon capacity. Fuel tank is mounted behind cab between frame rails, which is 17 gallons and is filled through the top of the air tank/propane tank on driver side. Sight tube for fuel level is behind driver seat.
Pictures will speak for the rest of the interior details, exterior details and quality of work on this truck. I finished this truck June of 2014, has been to alot of shows around the state of Oregon and won many trophy. I built it to drive and that what we have done with it, its not a trailer queen. I drive it to work every day. It has around 8k miles on it and flawless. Very comfortable to drive long distances. My wife and I build rat rods together, she has her own 42 dodge with a cummins in it.
