1980 International Scout II
My restoration shop completed this truck for a customer late last year. We do high-end restorations designed to look as good as day one for the next 40 years. Financial conditions dictate that it must be sold, and this is your chance to have a body off frame restoration for half the cost required to build it. There is over $70, 000 invested in this show piece. Since I doubt ANY Scout will be selling for $70, 000 anytime soon, I'm here on eBay to find a fair market value for this truck and move it on to a new owner.
This is a beautiful, immaculate nut and bolt restoration of the highest quality. It is not a 100% OEM restoration, it was restored to a high standard with some upgrades and conveniences. Feel free to contact me with comments about what is or isn't correct for a 1980 Scout II, but my answer will be that this is the truck we wanted to build, with the options we wanted to have at the high level of quality we wanted to produce.
The truck was originally a diesel Scout II, but the diesel components were long gone by the time I found it. The drivetrain had been replaced with a 392 V8, T19 close-ratio 4-speed and Dana 20 transfer case. The axles are open-diff Dana 44's with 4.10:1 ratios, disc brakes on the front, drums on the rear. The body had some considerable rust damage so a replacement body was sourced from a clean, original truck in Texas. Only minor body repair was necessary including replacing the rockers, repairing the rear floor, repairing dents in the end caps, and repairing the hinges in the liftgate.
Every nut, bolt and component of this truck was replaced or refurbished to like new condition before being reinstalled. If there is a nicer restored Scout II out there, I'd love to see it.

Chassis & Drivetrain
The body was completely removed from the frame and everything on the frame was disassembled. The 392 V8 was rebuilt by North Texas Scouts. The carb is a 600CFM 4-BBL Edelbrock. The axles, transmission and transfer case were rebuilt by a local drivetrain shop. Springs are Rancho 2.5 lift springs that I'd been saving for a project with matching new Rancho RS5000 shocks. Shackles are one-piece extended length. A straight steer brace and 1.5 degree caster correction shims were added (in addition to the 2 degree castor already on the 1980 axle). The driveshaft was rebuilt and balanced. All new brake components were installed on the axles. Heavy duty tie rod and heavy duty drag link from Backcountry Binders. The entire chassis and suspension was painted with 3 coats of Chassis Black. The engine compartment is finished out the highest standard and includes the factory jack and handle. An aftermarket AC system was custom assembled using some new and some original Scout II parts.
Body
As mentioned, the body came from a clean, original Scout II found in Texas. The rockers on each side had to be repaired with patch panels from Super Scout Specialists. The end caps were dented and properly repaired. The liftgate hinges and mounts were rusted and repaired by hand fabricating new metal replacements. The rear floor had a quarter-inch thick plate welded in place, but only small holes were found on the sides of the rear floor from underneath. This was repaired and the welding cleaned up around the edges of the plate. A custom cut rubber mat was installed in the rear cargo area. The bumpers and door handles (inside and out) were professionally rechromed. The front glass and liftgate glass are new. The door glass and hardtop side glass were sourced from the best quality available and new meticulously cleaned and polished. Paint is high quality Dupont Chromabase in Fleet Red with top quality Dupont Standox clear coat. The underside of the body is sprayed with quality truck undercoating.
Interior
Everything in the interior was restored or replaced. The door panels were purchased from Super Scout Specialists and then modified. The seats were custom upholstered to match the door panels. The seat bases and tracks were rebuilt and painted. New carpet from Super Scout Specialists was insalled along with two layers of sound deadining including dynamat in the doors. The gauges were rebuilt and installed with new plexiglass covers for like-new appearance and function. The dash pad is an original in excellent condition as is the steering wheel. The dash was completely dissambled and painted. The rear cargo area and hardtop side panels are painted with texturized black paint. The headliner is a custom material cut to fit in the stock position. A basic, modern stereo is located in the factory location and 6x9 speakers are installed hidden under the seats. A bolt-in show-bar is also installed.
Better Than Factory Scout II
This Scout project was intended to be a high quality yet functional build. The end result is a beautiful show piece that can be driven every day. Every detail is perfect and no expense was spared during the build. A total of 18 miles has been logged for testing purposes. This truck is like new and even better than it was when it left the factory. Special thanks to Super Scout Specialists for being a valuable parts vendor during the build. I'm pretty sure we purchased every new item that was available for a Scout II.
