Description:

Nice, stock, original (other than rims), complete, great running 1971 International-Harvester Scout II that really deserves to be restored rather than hopped-up due to its unmodified condition. 1971 was a partial year for Scout II's as 800B's (its predecessor) were manufactured until March 1971 and Scout II production began in April 1971. This one is an early build with a completion date of June 1971 (see pics) and original delivery into California. I'm selling it for a friend who just lost his storage so some unfinished projects unfortunately have to go.
The running gear is all stock and original and consists of a 304cid V8, 4 speed manual transmission with 11 clutch, Dana 20 transfer case, Dana 30 front axle, Dana 44 rear axle (with optional Powr-Lok; gear ratios are 3.73), manual steering and manual 11 drum brakes front and rear. The original Service Parts Record (Line Setting Ticket/Build Sheet) comes with the vehicle. The engine has a new fuel pump, a new battery and newer distributor cap, plugs, wires, and alternator. After sitting for several years, I created a makeshift gas tank under the hood, checked all fluids, primed the engine, turned the key and she fired right up. Original gas tank is installed but not hooked up.
Brakes need to be pumped to hold pressure (they may just need to be bled; no signs of fluid leakage) but I drove it around the block and it ran great. It started, idled, accelerated, shifted, turned and steered properly. Transfer case shifts easily but both inner front axles were removed by a prior owner because of locking hub issues. The exhaust initially showed light blue smoke on start up which is typically caused by worn valve guides on I-H V8's (fortunately this is a head issue and not a block issue and even then you can leave it alone for years). These are tough, high nickel content engines which last a long time.
The body is all stock with no cutting or butchery of any kind. Exterior has been primered and only has light surface rust (no cancer). Original rear fenders were long ago removed and replaced with identical fiberglass units. Tailgate, doors, front fenders, grill and hood all appear rust-free. Top is rust-free and in overall good condition. Glass is all good other than a cracked windshield (easily replaceable flat glass). Most (if not all) exterior trim pieces are included. Exterior is cancer free other than driver side rocker panel. An unused replacement is included (see pictures).
The interior is still original as you can see in the pictures. Portions of the floorboard have rusted through. I have coated most of it with Rust Reformer so it won't spread. All panels needing repair are flat which makes repair/replacement much easier. And patch panels are available in the aftermarket if you choose to go that route. Door panels and much more are included (please ask for pictures). Dash has no cutting or butchery other than minor cutting of removable screw-on cover panel to fit a stereo (since removed). Rear seat upholstery is intact and in decent condition (for matching purposes).
I hope this Scout II ends up in the hands of a Scout aficionado who desires a complete, stock and original SUV as the basis for his next restoration or daily driver project. This one in particular is awesome due to its simple and strong drive train... manual transmission, manual steering, manual brakes, etc. It doesn't get more basic than this. Just my two cents.
