The Story:
I've owned vintage 4WDs for 34+ years, my first was a 1970 FJ55, I've owned just about every kind of old off road rig you can think of from 1941 on and loved them all. This sweet old Scout 800A came from a local estate sale (I bought 3 of his vintage 4x4s) with 58K miles, the previous owner is retired, he built this rig for his daughter to run around town in. I was able to speak with the PO which is how I got some of the info below though I'm sure I'm missing stuff. This is a really, really, nice ol' Scout, not a pro restoration but he spent an enormous amount of time making everything work the way it should, look good etc, this is an excellent all around runner/driver and it turns heads everywhere you go.
This Scout has a fresh rebuild on the 345 V8 (and just about everything else) has 4 new old school bias ply Power King mud/snow tires on factory 15 wheels, new shocks front/rear and is equipped with factory POWR-LOK posi rear diff. The body is super straight, tail gate and floors are excellent in every way. The dash is uncut, glass is excellent, seats are super nice, has 2 fuel tanks (also includes an extra tank, not shown) original radio, interior is bed lined, mico lock, includes extra parts, new weather stripping for the doors etc. The 4 spd shifts great, clutch, brakes, parking brake, everything was built to be safe and driven, it looks like there is very little on this rig he did not go through. I have no documentation on the miles but after driving it I do not question the odometer.
The big V8 starts instantly, great oil pressure, idles smooth and quiet, no smoke, runs cool, tons of power, steers tight, shifts perfect, tracks down the highway dead on at 60mph and puts a big SE grin on my face every time I drive it. Everything looks very correct under the hood, factory oil bath air cleaner, clean and unmodified. The rust issues with these rigs are well known but this one is super clean inside, out and underneath. There's not a single dent on the skid plate which is unheard of here in Colorado where our back roads are carved out of solid stone.
If you want an original, sweet heart of a Scout to drive, love and preserve as is, this is it. Please examine the pictures very closely then call/email me with questions or ask for additional photos and bid to win.
This is a 50 year old 4X4 truck and as you would expect there are some things here and there that are less than perfect. There are a couple places on the hood that are discolored - faded (see photos) there is a little black overspray here and there, it will buff off, there is a little spot of peeling paint under the drivers side fender emblem (see photos) There is a little noticeable body work on the inside of the tailgate (email for photos) The one thing this rig really needs right now is a new muffler, the cherry bomber on it is rusted out (see photos) overall this rig is excellent, not perfect, but a great driver and it will make someone very happy to own it
