1963 International Harvester Scout

International Harvester Scout (1963)
for sale

Price: US $1,500.00

Description:

Here you have it... quite possibly the coolest and most nostalgic scout left on the planet. Just when you think every barn find has been gobbled up by the tv shows, this awesome piece of history was just 20 miles from my door where it has been hibernating for the last couple of decades.
This truck was bought new by a TRUE War Hero,
Brigadier General, Donald(Buck) Schmuck
from Buffalo, WY. Buck was somebody that should be remembered, and even though I did not know him personally we are going to pay it forward by donating 10% of the total purchase price of the truck to a military non-profit. The winning bidder of the truck will get to choose where they would like the funds to donated. It must be donated to a legit and registered military Non-Profit Organization.
Here is Mr. Schmuck's history:
Schmuck grew up in Denver and on the family ranch near Walden, Colorado. He attended the University of Coloradoand the U.S. Coast Guard Academy having enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1935 and was later commissioned a second lieutenant in 1938 following graduation from university.
After basic training, he served as a platoon leader at San Diego Marine Corps Base, then served in the South Pacific with the 2nd Marine Brigade during World War II, seeing action in Guadalcanal, Vella Lavella, and Bougainville as a rifle company commander. He was hospitalized briefly from injuries sustained in Bougainville and then joined the 1st Marine Division in time for landings on Peleliu and, later, Okinawa, where he was again wounded in action. He was a lieutenant colonel commanding an infantry battalion training for the invasion of Japan when the war ended.
Donald Schmuck attended the Amphibious Warfare School at Quantico, Virginia, and the Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, then did a short tour with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, before returning to Quantico as an instructor in the Marine Corps Schools.
In 1949 he was ordered to the United Nations Middle Eastern Commission and was active in Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, and Iraq. Schmuck joined the 1st Marine Division at the start of the Korean War in 1950, assigned as commander, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines under the regimental command of Col. Chesty Puller. He led the 1st Battalion in action during 1950 and 1951, including the Chosin Reservoir operation and the Spring Counter Offensive. He served as regimental executive through the Summer Offensive and served with the Fleet Marine Force Pacific at Pearl Harbor after Korea. During that duty, Schmuck was charged with producing a number of contingency war plans covering national objectives in Asia, including several locations in Vietnam, and he conducted the in-country reconnaissance required for those plans. In 1959 he attended the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Schmuck retired from the Marine Corps in 1960 with the rank of Brigadier General, continuing to be active in special missions in Central America, Vietnam, and Laos. He completed a PhD in nuclear physics at CU–Boulder in the early 1960s, and was a military observer during Desert Storm in February 1991 in the Gulf War.
He was active with the Marine Corps League in Wyoming and Hawaii, and was a founding member of the Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club here . He purchased the Triangle-S ranch between Buffalo and Sheridan, Wyoming. He died, aged 88, in Honolulu and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
He never married and is survived by his brother, retired Cmdr. Carl Schmuck of Anacortes, Washington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Here is the rest of story. .
In 2014 this beauty was rescued and brought to auction...
I happend to be in the right place at the right time. I fought tooth and nail with a phone bidder from Canada... but nobody was going to take it away from me! I won, I trailered it back home to Sheridan, Wyoming and I turned it into the beauty it is today. It would have been a perfect restoration candidate but the fact it was rust free and having the amazing patina it had made it hard to erase. So we lightly scuffed the paint so the clear would have some bite and last for many years. We applied 3 solid coats of clear, inside and out and did a few other things... here is what else we did.
-Stripped all of the old aged and crumbling weatherstripping from around the doors.-New valve cover gasket-New plugs and wires-Changed all oil and fluids-Sanded and prepped wheels and hubs for new paint.
Here is what still needs some attention...-New weatherstripping around the doors-2nd gear occasionally slips out of gear, most likely a synchro-Needs a new sending unit for the gas tank...
This truck runs and drives great. Buy it and drive it or put it in your collection. It is still running the original 4 cylinder power house that came with it from the factory, so if you are looking for something to pull your snowmobiles with this probably isn't the truck for you. But if your looking for an iconic piece of history and a conversation piece or a truck you can take the top off, lay the windshield down and cruise on a hot Sunday afternoon... THIS IS YOUR TRUCK!
Here is how this is going to work...
First, this is a NO RESERVE auction, so the high bidder is going to take this truck home. If you would like to inspect and test drive, it must be done prior to the auction ending. I am happy to take it to a mechanic of your choice within the Sheridan area if you want to have a pre purchase inspection done at your expense.
Once again, I believe that Mr. Schmuck being the war hero he was deserves something too... So I am going to donate 10% of the final auction value to a NON-PROFIT organization of the purchasers choice, but must go to a military NON PROFIT.
I HOPE THE NEW OWNER OF THIS TRUCK ENJOYS IT AS MUCH AS I HAVE... SO BE HAPPY AND BID ON! HERE'S TO THE SCHMUCK TRUCK!!
***I do have a video of the truck running and driving and will be uploading a link for you all to view. And I also have 50+ pics that will be viewable soon.
