Up for bidding is this very nice 1985 Isuzu P'up long bed pickup truck. These Japanese 4 cylinder diesel pickup trucks are only getting harder and harder to find. Especially in this condition! This truck has had a lot of work done to it over the last 3 years.
Mechanical work: This truck has the upgrade MSG 5 speed transmission that came out of a 1993 2.3 Amigo. These are known to be stronger than the original diesel transmission. Plenty of info can be found on the isuzupup.com site. Last February this transmission had all the internal bearings replaced by Mikes Transmission in Durham NC with all original Isuzu OEM bearings. Shocks were replaced about 2 years ago with heavy duty Rancho RS5000 shocks. Front ball joints, wheel bearings, control arm bushings and steering tie rods were all replaced at the same time. Ball joints, etc were all high quality MOOG parts. Drive shaft Universal joints are less than one year old. Engine is not the original that came with the truck, although the truck did originally have the same C223 diesel engine as proven by the VIN number. The current engine came out of a 1982 Pup. It runs strong and has approx 220K on it. New glow plugs, fresh oil change and recent injection system work. Timing belt is around 3 years old. Runs smooth and cool. It will start up and drive across country if you wanted. This particular truck also has the very hard to find upgrade 3 core radiator for increased cooling capacity. These were originally found in the Turbo Diesel and automatic transmission trucks. They are extremely sought after! The radiator was completely reamed, refurbished, and pressure tested by SAPS Radiator in Garner, NC last february. This truck also has a brand new heater core. For those who know, these are NOT cheap. Around 300.00 for the OEM core, which is what is. A couple other sought after goodies that this truck has is the very desirable after LS instrument cluster which features a tachometer. Sadly, the tachometer is not currently functioning because it is lacking the sending unit that screws into the injection pumps on the later trucks. For the tachometer to work, I believe the IP will need to be replaced with one that has the sending unit option. I have had the tach running fine on a pump with a sending unit though, so I guarantee it does/can work. I do have the extra LS bottom gauge cluster that surrounds the shifter with extra gauges such as oil pressure and volts. These will need to be hooked up. Dashboard is CRACK FREE on the top, where they normally get cracked due to sun damage. Very nice!BFG All terrain tires on 15 inch steel Trooper wheels. Tires have about 30% life left on them.
Body:
This truck recently had a brand new bumper for 1986-87 model year pups put on it. Rear bumper is from an '87. It has the hard to find factory Turbo Diesel hood scoop although as stated above the engine is NOT a turbo diesel. However if the new owner had or found the necessary manifolds, turbo, etc., then the exterior would be factory correct. Frame has no rot and was recently cleaned and the whole underside of the truck was coated with POR15 rust proof chassis paint. The floor pans had some corner rust through that was also just all cut out and replaced with new sheet metal prior to the POR15 coating. The body of the truck was also professionally painted. It's very straight and as you can see, Olive Drab. Interior of the cab was also gutted and painted Olive drab to match. Body is rust free.
Still to do: The truck will come with brand new sound proofing and vinyl floor covering. The new owner will need to install this. Exhaust system is a little rusty and could stand to be replaced at some point.
