Jaguar Other (1966)

Price: US $10,000.00
This auction is for a
very original, totally rust free, California 3.8 Mk 2 Jaguar. It has been left
to the family by its previous owner and now is being offered for sale. Cars
like this, original, unmolested examples of rust free West Coast cars are getting
increasingly harder to find. This is a very complete, matching numbers car with
an extremly original interior. Even the
paint looks like it could be original, I can see no signs of overspray on any
chrome or rubber. If it was repainted it must have been completely disassembled
and done properly. There are a lot of paint chips and some spots are a little
flat but overall it looks presentable. The body is very straight and the gaps
good. Doors open and close very nicely always a good sign of an original low
mileage car. The chrome is astounding with a deep luster and it is very
straight. The glass is the original Triplex all round and it is in good
condition although the windshield has a minute amount of delaminating in the
corners and a few tiny stone chips, but that is being very critical. Some of the rubber gaskets are dried up and
in need of replacement. Underneath the
car is pristine, floors and rocker panels straight and no sign of rust at all.
In the trunk there is an original jack and mat.
The car is running and driving but it
could do with having the carburetors overhauled and a good tune-up as it is
difficult to start from cold. Once it is warmed up it runs decently showing
good oil pressure and does not overheat. The engine is quiet and seems to have
good power. The transmission is quite good for one of these cars its only fault
would be shifting into top a little early with a firm shift. No slipping or
flairing and it selects reverse without any issue. We recently checked the
compression and all cylinders had over 130lbs. The engine has had the pypass hose blanked off but it does not seem to
effect the cooling system. Recently the
fuel pump was replaced with the correct SU unit and a new battery was
fitted. On driving the car it is very apparent
that the tyres need to be replaced as they are flat spotted from sitting. This
of course causes quite a lot of vibration but the ride quality is still
surprisingly good. The brakes stop the car well, nice and straight no pulling
to one side or unwanted noise. The suspension feel good no knocking or banging
from underneath. The rear axle is quiet.
The interior is amazing all original and
in great condition for a car that is pushing 50. It retains a nice pushbutton
Blaupunkt radio from the60’s, it lights up when turned on but I could not get any sound from it. The wood is
in very good shape, not very shinny anymore but not delaminating or showing
noticeable cracks. The picnic tables have some crinkling of the varnish but
even the screws and hardware are 99% correct. The front seats have circumed to the dry heat and the leather has cracked
but the foams are still soft and the seats supportive. The horn works when the
center is pushed, it also works when the steering wheel is pulled on when turning
a corner sometimes! The upper steering column bushes need to be replaced as
there is some sideways play causing this. The steering wheel is perfect and
uncracked, unfortunately the chrome horn ring push is broken and missing. The
green headliner is in perfect condition it looks brand new. Carpets are
obviously a little worn but still remarkable condition considering. Same thing
with the door panels.
Electrically it looks
completely unmolested. No sign of any “improvements” or “upgrades” It has two
Lucas Fogranger lights on the front that do not work ( could be bulbs) but the
side lights ( front right out) headlights ( the sealed beams are mis-matched) and even the high beam
warning on the dash work fine. The brake lights are on all the time – probably
needs a switch. Indicators work and self cancel most of the time (steering
column bushes). The wipers work correctly, both speeds and parking properly
when turned off. No sign of any windshield washes although all the equipment is
there. The gauges all function correctly including the speedo, tachometer, odommeter and trip. The dash lights currently
do not illuminate. Also no reverse lights but the interior lights come on when
any door is opened except the drivers! These electrical issues are probably
something we could take care of quite inexpensively, if the buyer would like.
The heater has been bypassed and there
is an ugly aftermarket mirror that is adjustable from inside that has been
fitted to the drives door.
To recap this car is just a lovely example of a very original old
classic, It has always been garaged and well looked after and does not look
like ever having been in a serious collision or driven in any harsh conditions.
The interior still even has that classic Jaguar smell. It is a sharp looking, genuinely unmolested
Due to its lack of rust, straight body and originality will appreciate well if
it is looked after and driven as is or it could be the basis for a stunning
restoration, if you choose.
As always I would recommend driving this
car if at all possible, please call 310 833 1525 for an appointment. Bid with
confidence, the car will not disappoint. I have sold many classic British cars on e-bay with all buyers
leaving excellent feedback.
