I purchased this car last year. It is absolutely gorgeous. It has a glossy black exterior in excellent condition, with no real blemishes except for a single door ding on the driver side which isn't very noticeable. It truly is in outstanding condition for a 2000 Jaguar. The wheels have never hit a curb, and the tires have plenty of tread. This is an extremely classy car. The interior is beautiful beautiful beautiful, and everyone who has been in my car has drooled. This is the Vanden Plas model, which has a lot of wood. Floor mats are custom, and are new.
When I purchased the car, it was in perfect running condition. The engine was perfect. No noises, no smells, no leaks, smooth as a top. The transmission was equally smooth. I replaced the front brakes shortly after purchase (both rotors and pads), changed the oil, and flushed the power steering fluid. I purchased this car to be my second car, which I needed at the time as my primary car is a 2-seater. Frankly, this was a dream car. I always lusted after Jags, and this is the last version of the classic XJ styling.
Now here is the unfortunate part of the story. If you are familiar with the first generation of the Jaguar V8 engine, you may know it used plastic timing chain tensioners (there is a ton of information online about this). They need to be changed out to the metal tensioners, and if not there is a chance they will break, and the result can be ugly. So. ..one day I drove home from work, and parked the car in the garage. It was driving perfectly as usual. 15 minutes later I went back into the car and started it, and it immediately started running like crap. I shut it down quickly, and did not allow the engine to run for more than 10 seconds, and not above idle speeds. While I have not had the issue formally diagnosed, I can say with almost certain confidence that the issue is the timing chain tensioner issue. And at this point, the battery has since died. I have not attempted to start the car since.
If you have solid mechanical chops and are looking for a project, this may be it. The car is beautiful, and truly was in perfect running condition until this issue occurred. I have gotten quotes to have the timing chain and all tensioners replaced. .it is an expensive repair (2-3k range). That's the curse of Jaguar. ..they are gorgeous cars, but sometimes require expensive repairs. And that's why I am selling the car. I just no longer need it. Frankly, I need to get it out of my garage at this point before family members strangle me because it has been sitting since last year.
I am listing the car at no reserve, auction starting at $2, 000. It is worth every single penny at this price. It truly is beautiful. Everything works, including air conditioning, CD changer, sunroof, etc. There are no other issues that I am aware of. You will not disappointed in the condition. Again, the paint and exterior are excellent. Interior is beautiful. This car truly needs to be back on the road again.
I am requiring a nonrefundable $250 deposit via paypal within 24 hours of auction end. The balance can be paid in cash or certified funds when you pick up the car.
