Jaguar XJS (1991)
for sale
Price: US $8,995.00
Price: US $8,995.00
This auction is for my 1991 Jaguar XJ-S Classic Collection
convertible. This model is the
last of the pre-facelift cars, meaning that it retains the round USA-spec
headlights (2 per side) and the individual taillights. These are also the last year of the
two-seater convertibles. These
cars have the 5.3 liter High Efficiency V-12 engine and a Turbo-Hydramatic 400
automatic transmission. The
interior of the Classic Collection cars feature burl elm dashboards and trim
and specially trimmed leather seats with contrasting piping. This particular car is equipped with
the dealer optional Dayton wire wheels.
I have owned this car for over 15 years and have maintained
it the entire time I have owned it. This is evidenced by the extensive maintenance records that go with the
car. I have also made updates to
improve the performance and handling of the car. The handling updates do not change the appearance of the
car, but they do change the GT car’s inherent “land-yacht” ride to a more
sports car-like ride. If you are
new to the world of the XJ-S, you might enjoy reviewing the Jaguar
Club of North America website. This site has online articles that outline steps recommended to improve the performance of your XJ-S.
Here are the updates:
INTAKE
K&N air filters installed in place of the
paper element filters. (Car
maintains its stock intake system.)
EXHAUST
USA-spec exhaust downpipes replaced with
Euro-spec down pipes. (Original USA-spec pipes, including cats, go with car.)
Stock center silencers removed and replaced with
AJ-6 Engineering straight pipes. (Original silencers attached to USA-spec downpipes and go with car.)
Stock rear silencers were maintained on the car.
H-pipe added to exhaust.
SUSPENSION
Rubber suspension bushings replaced with
polyurethane.
Rubber trailing arm bushings replaced with
Delrin bushing.
Front sway bar upgraded to one-inch.
Rear sway bar (7/8”) added. (This model year did not include a factory rear
bar.)
Bilstein shock absorbers added on all four corners.
INTERIOR
Seats were reupholstered at Paul’s Jaguar in
original factory colors. (The driver's seat has some minor wear from use.)
Alpine radio was installed. This unit has the wiring for an
iPod/iPhone installed in the center console box. (Original Jaguar radio goes with the car.)
Leather covered shift selector knob replaced
with burl elm knob.
Embroidered floor mats installed.
The dashboard material under the odometer has come loose.
This car is a 25-year old nice driver quality car. (Car was manufactured in November
1990.) It has some small dings and
scratches from being driven and used, but it is still one of the most beautiful
cars I have ever seen. Some of the paint has been scratched off of the edge of the drivers door ( shown in photo). The speed
control is currently not working, but everything else does. The top goes up and down with no
issues. The headliner is dirty
because the previous owner (literally a little old lady from Texas) didn’t use
the boot. As you can see in the
photos, the boot is included as is it’s carrying case. There is a small crack in the windshield that has been there since I purchased the car 15 years ago. It does not go through to the back glass. As pictured, one of the wheels has been
dented (by the previous owner.) It has not prevented me from enjoying the car
for the past 15 years. The wheels
are properly sealed and do not leak air. There are some surface cracks in the center console wood as you might
expect from a 25-year old car. The
original spec Pirelli P600 tires are mounted on the wheels. They have about 1, 000 or fewer miles on
them and look great. The spare
tire has a factory Honeycomb-style wheel and the same tire I bought with the
car in 2000. Car has Lojack
installed. The original owner’s
manual is in the glove box. A Jaguar Cars Inc. XJ-S Electrical Guide ring bound notebook is included.
This car is consistently stored in my garage (next to my
wife’s MGBGT.) This car is still being driven short distances. Therefore, the mileage will be slightly higher than when listed.
