This is likely the lowest mileage 1995-1996 Jaguar XJS convertible for sale on ebay/in the country right now. At just under 30, 000 original miles, this car has been coveted more than driven. Take a good look at the photos and see why this is the case: it is all original, has been very well maintained, it is an absolute pleasure to drive, and it is one of the most fantastic color combinations: Sapphire Blue and Creme.
1995 and 1996 are the best years for the XJS.
Jaguar constantly improved the XJS during the years of production. Most Jaguar enthusiasts agree that the 1995 and 1996 models are the best that were built, and therefore driving XJS's produced. The 1995 1996 (1996 was all left over 1995 production... to make way for the XK8) models of XJS are also the most sought after, most collectible, and command the most amount of money, because of the following reasons: Jaguar re-engineered the rear axle for the 1994-1996 XJS adding a better gear ratio (3.54) which is better suited to the newer overdrive transmissions that were offered. Along with the new gear ratio, the 1994-1996 XJS also received outboard rear brakes (there was a good reason for the inboard brakes) which makes them easier to service and does not require the removal of the axle in order to change the brake rotors or pads (a $100 brake job with a $1000 labor bill). In 1994, the rotors were solid, like the 1993 and earlier units. In 1995 and 1996, Jaguar produced both outboard and vented rotors (which cool significantly better than solid rotors). The 1995 and 1996 models also had more comfortable seats with integrated head bolster. They had a more efficient, better horsepower and torque engine than the 4.0L in 1993-1994 (the 1993-94 models had 219hp vs. 1995-96 had 237hp) due to an improved ECU (engine computer unit), better injectors, and direct coil over spark plugs (no more timing issues). With these improvements, the 4.0L engine in the XJS was arguably as fast as the V12 of the same year, as the engine was also significantly lighter, which also improved fuel economy (up to 18 city/24 hwy). The 4.0L engine is considered by many to be the 'chevy small block' of Jaguar engines, as it is proven durable... many XJ6 owners in California has over 300K miles without trouble. The 4.0L is much more reliable than the earlier V12, especially the 1988-1992 models with the Marelli ignition systems (which is why those are either: 1 catching on fire or 2 dropping valve guides/blowing head gaskets). They are easier to maintain and cost less to do so... after all, why not drive your Jaguar for pleasure (a novel idea some earlier models only dream about).
It is a highly sought after color combination: Sapphire Blue with NDR Creme interior. I had another Jaguar XJS convertible in a different color combo... the Sapphire Blue car gets 10x the amount of attention, and seems to be more appealing to females. I have a friend in the Phoenix Jaguar Club who says that: Sapphire Blue on the XJS is more elegant and somehow more 'Jaguary'. It also has the V12 rear spoiler (which is not common on 4.0L cars, but not rare) with an integrated rear bar light (which is super, super rare... I have never seen another one). This gives the car a little more of a sporty appearance.
This is a stunning example of the XJS. I purchased it well over a year ago from a 'snowbird' who kept it here in sunny AZ as a winter car. I stored it and did not change the title until just recently. I had the intentions of making it into a 'show only car', but unfortunately, my plans have had to change (life happens). In that time, I have had the car very carefully looked at. It is incredibly well-preserved with fantastic interior and paint. Being with such low mileage, it is an opportunity to feel what a Jaguar XJS was like off of the show room floor. Everything works... it does not overheat (even here in 110 plus weather), the A/C works wonderfully, the magnesium valve cover is in terrific shape (a sign that the engine has never been too hot or exposed to wet weather). It is a 3 owner car, by the previous owner's account (one change of title is from the same owner changing the state of title only), and has spent all of its time either in Florida or Arizona. The engine is super quiet, produces great power, the transmission is smooth and the ride is unbelievable... in fact, thinking about how wonderful it is... I seriously question my motivation.
