1974 Jaguar XKE
When the XKE first came out the highest compliment that it was ever paid was by Enzo Ferrari who stated that it was the most beautiful car ever. (Keep in mind that Enzo is well known for producing some pretty good-looking cars). The 1961 Jaguar used the Jaguar six cylinder dual overhead cam engine. By the 1970s Jaguar’s image as an avant -garde sports car needed a boost and the Jaguar engineers and designers came out with the V12 engine and lengthened the wheelbase. The lengthened wheelbase provided considerably more comfort to the cockpit and the car still remained one of the all time greatest sports cars but was now also a comfortable touring car.
Before describing the attributes of this car, lets keep in mind what most collectors know, and that is that some of the hottest collector cars today are foreign sports cars and of course the Jaguar is right up there in the front running. Savvy collectors covet cars that come from the original owners (which is very rare to find) and with original paint and original interior…in others words a real original survivor like this car is considered the most desirable for any collector of sports cars. In addition if the sports cars have very rare accessories (that most of the cars when new were not equipped with) this adds more value to the car. In the case of this Jaguar the rarest accessory of all is the hardtop.
Now in reference to the car that MissChiTown is marketing for the original owner, yes this is an original owner car and to top this off, the person who bought this car brand new is a woman. She lives in a very rural area and always stored the car indoors and never drove it in bad weather. As a matter of fact her storage has a wooden floor as an extra benefit. To make this car more significant it has the original paint and the original interior. Of course for the frosting on the cake it has the factory hardtop (not a repro hardtop but a factory hardtop!)
As you can see from the photos and as the owner has stated the car has extremely low original miles, which are showing 24, 525 on the odometer. The car has had no major repairs and far as the owner knows all major components are working, as they should be except the tachometer. The private seller is getting quite elderly and has decided to find a new caretaker for her baby.
