For Sale is my 1979 Lincoln Continental coupe pick up conversion. I believe the photos will speak for themselves about the car's visual condition, although some work has been done since the photos were taken. The top of the dashboard, missing in the photos, has been repainted and reinstalled, although the paint job was poor and the new paint is already starting to curl up in spots. The fake-wood dashboard trim, missing in the photos, has been cleaned and reinstalled. The garbage seen in the interior photos has been cleaned out and the car vacuumed. The door panels have been removed, thoroughly cleaned, reinstalled, and replacement arm rests have also been installed. Although not installed, I do have replacement seats for the car that I will be happy to include with the car is the new owner desires them.
I do not know what the car's mileage is. When I bought this car, nothing worked, and I do mean NOTHING in the literal sense. That included the gauge cluster and odometer not working either. I replaced the gauge cluster with one out of a junkyard car, so the mileage showing is whatever was on the junkyard car plus whatever I've put on the car. In my state of Illinois, where this car is registered, titled, and licensed, mileage declarations are not required on vehicles over 20 years old, so for me the unknown mileage is not an issue. I only wanted a working odometer to keep track of service intervals.
As stated, nothing worked on this car when I got it. Over time and thanks to driveway tinkering, I succeeded in getting the car roadworthy and driveable, and getting almost everything to work again. Notice I said almost everything. I never did figure out the climate control system. So, the air conditioning does not work, and in fact the car wants to blow heat all the time. Personally for me, that's not a problem. I just turn off the blower fan and open the windows.
Something else I should probably make any potential purchasers aware of is that the rear bumper was off the car when I got it. An Achilles Heel of these era Lincolns is that the rear bumper brackets like to just literally rust through and the bumper eventually falls off. This bumper was reinstalled using homemade replacement brackets.
So why am I selling a car that I put so much work into? Well honest answer is I've reached the point of I'm tired of putting money into it. Among the things required to get the car running again was a new carburetor. I enjoyed driving this car for a couple years, until last summer when it decided it no longer wanted to start. The carburetor was replaced again, which solved the problem for a couple months, and then it started acting up again. So frankly, I've just reached the point of I'm tired of messing with it. So, with its current carburetor issue in mind, any potential purchaser should plan on picking up this car with a truck or trailer, and not plan on driving it home.
I am sorry to see this car go, as I've wanted one of these luxury El Camino-type conversions for a long time, but I just think its time. I am taking a large monetary loss with my opening bid at no reserve, but I think it is fair given the car's condition. And although I hate to suggest it, for that price, this could make one heck of a parts car.
