I found this beautiful Lincoln about a year ago and bought
it right away for a few reasons.
She is 99.8 percent complete and original. As far as I can
tell the only items missing are:
Deck lid lock cylinder (Lock mechanism is there but not the
cylinder)
Hood Ornament
A few parts (I think) of the original Jack Service Kit
Under hood insulation was removed
Carpeted kick panels under the dash are missing.
Plastic cover for dome light is missing
EVERYHING ELSE IS THERE.
Rundown of condition (see extensive photos as well)
Exterior:
There is very minimal rust on her, a couple small areas behind
the rear wheels and one spot on the rear driver door.
Mostly straight exterior, there was a small dent in the
passenger rear side that I was able to pop out and small dents on both the
front fenders, I was able to mostly pull those as well. See photos.
The old man owner drove by Braille a bit J nothing serious at
all.
Bumpers are in great condition, they are straight but
probably need to be rechromed or at least polished.
Stainless trim in great condition with only dented trim being
around the wheel well at front passenger side and some dings on the lower body
molding that runs under the doors on both sides.
As seen in the photos both taillights were broken when I bought
the car but I have purchased used good condition taillights that will go with
the sale.
Front grille is in great condition all complete just needs
polishing
Rear panel trim is in great shape, no dents, but the black
lines are faded, I would suggest having that repainted.
Hood is in really good condition, no dents but it did have
two rust holes one about the diameter of a pencil and one half that size.
Decklid is in as good a condition as I have ever found with
no rust through and only one very small ding seen in photos.
Interior:
Front seat is in poor condition, I covered it and put some
additional foam in it but it will need to be completely reupholstered and
redone
Rear seat is complete and has minor cracking, I would
suggest for symmetry sake this be redone as well.
Seat backs and chrome surrounds are in fantastic condition
and look almost new
Rear seat trim and panel (above the rear seats, in back
window) is in great shape with no sign of sun damage
Dashboard is in amazing condition, no signs of sun damage
and NO CRACKS. Its amazing.
Steering wheel is in near pristine condition.
Dash is complete with no missing pieces, some of the chrome
trim and aluminum has small pitting. Pretty sure it will polish out.
Carpet is removed from the front section but I have included
a good original front carpet out of another same year continental.
All door panels look in almost new condition.
Chrome interior trim is all there but has some pitting, I was
going to have it re chromed
Headliner material is in amazing shape, no rip but the seams
have come apart, the thread rotted I guess.
Electrical:
All lights were working as they should prior to disassembly
All power window motors were stuck but I removed and
lubricated window gears and tracks and all are working properly including power
wing windows.
Power seat works fine
Window switches were taken apart and cleaned and are working
New Ignition switch
Power door locks (vacuum driven) are not working (this was
due to the air ballast under the one of the fenders missing. I am including
both air ballasts with the sale so after install doors should work.
Im not sure if the AC is working or not, I never checked it
but compressor is there and spins freely.
Mechanical:
Brakes gone through and new brake cylinders installed
Transmission ran and shifted properly although I never drove
it over 50 mph, the torque converter appears to be new. The rear seal over the
end of the trans is cracked, this is an outer seal only.
When I bought her she hadn’t ran for about 10 years, I brought
her home, flushed the tank, poured some gas in the carburetor and she fired
right up. I have video somewhere of her running.
I was just going to remove the motor so I could clean up the
engine compartment but realized that would be a waste of effort to not go
through the engine while it was out.
Engine has been checked and completely resealed and painted
with high temp paint, most all parts were parts washed, sandblasted and
painted.
Heads were decked just in case before new head gaskets
installed. New valve springs on all valves. New valve stem seals installed (the
old ones were horrible)
New timing Gear and chain installed.
Radiator does not leak but I haven’t really cleaned it up. I
intended to have it professionally checked.
I have an edelbrock air cleaner installed currently but I do
have the original air cleaner.
Electric fuel pump is installed but I did keep the old
mechanical fuel pump and when I installed the new timing chain and gear I left
the cam lobe on the timing gear so re installation of a mechanical pump would
be easy.
New Ignition relay
New Starter and solenoid
Re sealed power steering gear box
New belts
New exhaust gaskets
Carburetor was cleaned but my personal feeling is it should
be rebuilt
Exhaust system didn’t appear to have any holes but is rusty
and I would have it re done.
New hoses included
New tires
Complete set of correct good condition hubcaps
Other:
Things I have noticed not listed above
I believe 3 of the 4 drums are the “finned drums” original
to the car, the other I believe is off of a same era Galaxy but works fine
There are a few small pin holes of rust on the passenger
floor board but they are totally solid
I never got the stereo to work although the lights would
come on, it could just be speaker wires
She currently sits on all her wheels with brakes connected
but the engine and trans and power steering gearbox and radiator are out of the
car
To make it easier on the buyer I would be happy to re
install the engine and transmission so it can all ship together.
The seats are not bolted in but will be in the car.
All small parts are bagged and labeled
Most parts have been cleaned and blasted and painted
Door panels are not installed
All chrome and trim is wrapped and clean
I will box all parts
and wrap them prior to vehicle transport
Please contact me with any questions I will be happy to
field any questions you may have.
Im bummed that I cant seem to find the time to finish this, but priorities are priorities and with 3 kids under 9 and a wife back in school
and life happening
I would rather see her get finished than sit.
I have done my best to accurately describe in detail all
known issues but I am not perfect.
