Description:

SUPER NICE 1983 LINCOLN MARK VI
I have had this car since 2002 and love it! We are in a major phase of downsizing, so I am forced to part with it. I guess you could say I am the 2nd owner. The first owner had a stroke. She signed it over temporarily to her daughter and son-in-law and I got it from them. It's been garage-kept and was never smoked in.
I'll tell you its flaws first, some that I've learned from just owning a Lincoln of this vintage. The hood struts are a joke on these things! The hood must weigh half a ton! I've gone through a lot of struts trying to find a pair that will hold it up and they just don't exist. I have a good friend that's a craftsman with a welder. He has a Cadillac that has the same problem. He told me he made a rod of some kind of special steel for his so I had him make a rod for this. You can see it in one of the pictures. That takes care of the problem in good shape. The trunks had the same problem, but not as bad. The struts have been on it for several years and work okay. I believe I have a brand new pair for it in case they give out.
The car seemed to overheat too often so I had a heavy duty radiator put in it and have not had trouble with that since.
Before I forget, I found out you need to push the glove box door shut, not slam it. I broke one latch doing that! I got another one and changed the lock in it so it still uses one key to open it, the doors, and the trunk.
Another common problem with these older Lincolns was the windows would quit working because the gears in the drive motors are nylon. They would eventually become brittle and break. All the windows have had the drive motors rebuilt, so they all work fine.
You probably noticed that it does not have the digital dash, but is analog. That is fine with me. I like gadgets, but having some of the digital systems repaired would cost a pretty penny. The analog just keeps working and working. Also it has the expensive wheels, not ordinary wheels with wheel covers.
As you can see from the photos, this car is a beauty. It has 174, +++ miles on it, but you would never know it driving it or looking at it. There is only one rust spot on it that I've seen. It is under the right reflector that's mounted under the trunk lid. There is a photo to show it to you. The leather upholstery is still supple and is not dried out or cracked. There is one crack in the left driver's door panel, which is also shown in a picture. The carpets still look great as does the headliner. The trunk liner looks very good except for a stain on the right side which is shown. The bumpers are in great shape, too, with no rust holes. I've been surprised many times by the way this car attracts young guys who come around, stand there admiring it, and always make great comments about it. I've had several guys tell me it should be in shows, but for one thing the engine is not all prettied up, which really counts in shows. And there are other things that should be done if it was going to be put in shows.
The parking lenses are brand new. I lost one so replaced both. I have one picture that shows the front of the car with the lights on which was taken in the dark. A pro photographer here in PA told me that was an outstanding picture! The lights on the front headlight doors are called ornamentation lights by Ford. I think they add real class to the car. I have headlight doors if you'd rather have them. Also, I have an antique plate on the car. From what I understand, if you live here in PA it can be transferred to you if you want it.
I have a lot of extras for the car. I have extra wheel centers, the locking nuts that go on the wheels to prevent them from being stolen, Ford's 1983 Town Car/Mark VI Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual, Hayes 1970-1995 Lincoln Rear Wheel Drive Repair Manual, and these items that came with the car;
· Ford Super Seal - 12-31-1984 papers
· Sales date - 07/11/1983- Croft Ford, Athens, PA
· Original ID card and receipts for the Extended Service Plan
· Original Stock Sticker with price- $23, 539.00
· Original Sales Tax Receipt
· Original Sales Receipt
· Original Mileage Statement- 44 miles
· Original Trade-in Mileage Statement Receipt- 1981 Lincoln

The lady who owned it traded in another Lincoln for it. The receipt shows the mileage that was on it. Can you imagine paying over $23, 000 for this car way back in 1983? She sure did! Think what it would cost today!

If you are interested in mpg, I've had it do 21+ mpg on it with the A/C on and doing about 70 mph. I haven't checked it in quite a while, so I don't know if it will still get that or not, especially with this ethanol gas we're stuck with. It is not an oil burner either. It rides like a luxury liner and hums right on down the road. I do experience like a hiccup with it once in a while. I have no idea why. It's done that ever since I've had the car. It has the 5.0 liter engine. It has a good battery, decent tires and a good spare.

Oh! One other thing before I forget; these older Lincolns were famous for the $1, 000 grommet! If you've ever had one that lost its transmission due to that grommet, you know what I'm talking about. There was a grommet mounted on the carburetor body that held the control cable that went to the transmission. That grommet would dry out and go bad and you would lose the transmission. The grommet only cost a few cents, but replacing the transmission or having it overhauled cost a lot more than that. Today it would cost more than $1, 000, I'm sure. I have been very blessed by the fact that this car never had that setup. It has a rod linkage that controls the transmission, so I have never had any transmission issues. I did have its oil changed, of course. I've also used Mobil 1 Synthetic in it ever since I've had the car, which is a major factor in its long life.

1983 was the last of the big Marks. Ford kept the same model Mark for 4 years before they changed them. In 1984 they came out with the Mark VII, which to me did not even look like a Lincoln. The 1980-1983 still had that Classic Lincoln look, with that big grill and long hood. I love that long hood! You always know where the front of the car is! Not so with so many of these newer cars! It's like you are driving a dashboard with a windshield and can only guess where the front of the car is. The Mark VI autos were a little smaller, lighter and more fuel efficient than the previous years when gas was a lot cheaper. But it still was big and impressive!
If you would like to see the car before bidding, that can be arranged. Contact me here through eBay. If you win the auction you will have to take care of transportation yourself. We have a couple of notaries nearby, so transferring the title should not be a problem. Full payment is required within 7 days after the close of the auction.
If you see something about shipping costs being $200, I have no idea how to get rid of it. It is not true. As stated above, you will have to take care of transportation costs.

I hope I've answered any questions you may have right here in the ad. If not, write me and I'll do my best to answer you. As you know, they aren't making any more of these and they are very scarce now, so if you are interested, don't lose out! Get a bid in and secure a place in line to have this fine car as your own. And thanks for looking!
