Up for sale is my 1988 Lotus Esprit SE Turbo. I purchased it about six months ago as a project car. I put new BF Goodrich tires on it and its been sitting in the garage since then.
The Lotus cranks right up and has a strong turbo. There is an oil leak that drips onto the exhaust that causes it to smoke. I believe this is coming from the lower cam. I don’t know if this is just tightening the bolts or needs a new seal. It appears to be a common problem based on the lotus forums.
I know very little about the history of this Lotus, but what I do know is pretty interesting. It was a production car for the film industry. Originally, it was black, but has been updated to a more modern body style and painted yellow. I don’t know what movies it has been in, but the guy that sold it to me said Basic Instinct. It does have a salvage title that he said happened on set and that’s when the new body was put on. He said the last year or so it had been sitting in a warehouse.
Please take a look at the pictures. Like I said this is a project car and not a show car. The body is in pretty decent shape, but its age is showing in areas. Remember this is a fiberglass body. Front windshield is cracked. Headlights are up, but the wires are discounted to raise them up and down.
I have owner’s manual, which gives you a complete part number guide and diagram for every single thing in the car. Also have new carpet for you to replace the interior.
I will put a video up of the car cranking up and the turbo kicking in.
One more thing; this is a small car; I am six foot, 225. It is very difficult for me to get in and out of. I twisted my knee the first time I got in the car. Please keep this in mind. This being the number one reason why I have not put any time or effort into her. She is a beautiful, fun, exotic car for the right person.
