Lotus Esprit (1998)

Price: US $20,000.00
Up for sale is a 1998 Lotus Esprit that has been 90% race
prepared. I purchased this car as a rolling chassis that was being transformed
into a race car. Towards that goal, a complete roll cage had been installed
including steel panels under both seats as well as an intercooler radiator.
Additionally installed were, Fuel cells, Penske 3-way adjustable shocks with
remote reservoirs and large HRE wheels with Hoosier race tires P335/30ZR18 in the rear and P245/40ZR17 in the
front. The firewall was replaced with aluminum including a panel that removes
for engine belt access. The rear cockpit glass was replaced with Lexan. The chassis has ~31K miles on it. I purchased
and reinstalled a windshield and wing. The parts from a wrecked 2001 vehicle with
~22K miles on it were used to complete the car including: Drivetrain (recently
belt serviced engine and limited slip differential installed), Brakes (AP
front, Brembo rear), wiring, windows and frames, controls, etc. This including
re-installing the HVAC sans the A/C condenser. The ECM contains the “Race”
firmware. I also purchased but did not install Corbeau racing seats and 5 point
harnesses, which are included. The exhaust includes cats but straight pipes –
no muffler. The car runs and drives. Two intercoolers are also included but are
not installed. The cobra alarm system is fitted and functional. Note: the
airbags and associated systems are not installed in the car and are not
included.
There are a number of things that the car needs to be
completed. The roll cage placement prohibits re-installation of the handbrake
cable. The seats and harnesses need to be installed. The ECM needs to be
mounted. Air cleaners need to be installed as well as their associated ducting (included).
The large rear wheels are likely to rub on the wheel arches, which are removed
in the pictures. I will include a pair of arches with the sale to be used
potentially as a pattern to fabricate larger arches. Some touch-up paint work
is needed but very minor. The right quarter panel window needs to be installed
(included).
If you are looking to race an Esprit then this is the car
you want. The investment needed to add the race components is quite substantial
(in the thousands of dollars). The shocks alone are a few thousand dollars each
new and the wheels and tires are also quite pricey.
My history with the car is documented here: here
