First Series Westfield 1959 Lotus Eleven Replica. This is an incredibly well-built car that runs and drives perfectly with no issues, but since being put into storage has only been started and driven once every four months.
We purchased this car originally to use as a retail display and driving advertising item in conjunction with the Steve McQueen clothing collection that we launched with full McQueen estate licensing in 2006. To duplicate Steve's Lotus, we removed/cut the exposed roll-bar and planned to have the back clam-shell head fairing re-glassed to the main rear panel. The doors were unscrewed from their hinges and the 4 electric plugs to the lights were unplugged from their bayonet fittings to allow the body work to be removed and painted to match McQueen's car. In the photographs the doors are loosely placed and will need to be re-attached if you chose to use the car as-is. The driver's seat was removed to be cut and re-upholstered to match McQueen's original seat, but was also never completed. The driver's seat is included and just needs to be re-bolted to the car. There are no perspex headlight covers and one of the side-screens is missing. These parts are available from US dealer Manik Technologies, LLC. Mileage is unknown.
This car will need the petrol flushed, and fresh petrol added. The dry sump will need to be drained of oil and a new battery installed, and four electrical connections from the lights to the main harness connected to the clamshells... an afternoon's work and you will be driving it.
A doner MG was used for the basis of the running gear, just as the original Lotus was. MG wire wheels with spinners. The engine is a Ford Cosworth cross-flow dry-sump unit- 1500cc with twin weber-carburetors. The exhausts have been chrome heat-treated. This is a great engine to have in this car.
These kits are no longer for sale, and were $25, 000.00, meaning this car can only go up in value. It's an amazing opportunity to have a Lotus Westfield without the headaches of building one- just choose your colour or do a little extra work and make a Steve McQueen Lotus Eleven replica. The car is registered as a 1973 MG (which is normal to use the doner vehicle's registration plate) and amazingly it also has a LOTUS XI license plate. The chassis plate is stamped with JB (or JS) W11 40- making this the 40th car of the first series.
