This Lotus apparently was a fixture on the hotrod scene in Petaluma, California. It was produced by a renown speed freak with a shop in town that had race support. It was an early Saturday and I was headed up the 101 for some sun and relaxing. My phone alerted me to a sale going on and we detoured over there. I was taken from the front of a large residence, to a larger workshop. There were hotrods, trucks, tractors, engines and more gearhead knick knacks than one could take in on a glance. What caught my eye was Bonneville posters from the sixties on up everywhere you looked. There was a rack with a 914 with a chopped off roof and low screen way up in the air. There were sponsor stickers everywhere on it. Apparently it had a quad turbo engine, and that wasn't fast enough, so some type of new engine was getting prepped, hidden under a blanket. This Lotus has been the subject of a complete Pontiac fiero engine and transaxle transplant. I doubt it was for hitting turns, I believe it was for going as fast as one could in a straight line. The Lotero was quite easy to get running again. Just a hot battery and some fuel. It gives off an interesting bark that might remind one of a high powered racing quad. It scoots along quite well and I hit 50 mph between my house and the first speed bump on the block. It went over the bump well, with no scraping or rubbing. In fact, it was so fun the local constables showed up about 15 minutes into playtime. Yes this nightmare on wheels can be yours. Its going to need some Tlc on the brakes, the windows go up and down, which is more than I can say about the 4 other europas I have scrounged up. It starts on one click of the key and I will send this car to you if you need it. Its a fun toy if you can tinker and have fun. harris
