I've owned this car for 35 years so I know every detail and defect- this is a 50 year old vehicle in quite original condition so there's a long list of little things that could use attention. I bought it while living in England and shipped it to the states in 1983. Matching engine and chassis numbers. Body is in good condition, no major damage but the usual pitting and minor cracks, last repainted in 1994. There is some damage around the driver's side door and the door fit needs adjusting; similarly around the bonnet (hood) and engine compartment; a crack near the right front parking light from bottoming out in the driveway. I have a maintenance log and all the repairs paperwork since 1980 and British number plates BBM 202C. I've tried to keep the car as original as possible, so none of the 'upgrades' that are common on Elans of this vintage here- rubber rotoflex couplings replaced in 2011, no electric fan or electronic ignition. 1, 050 miles since engine rebuild in 2011. I believe the 26, 000 miles on the odometer to be correct- I'm the third owner that I'm aware of and I have only put 10, 000 miles on the car since 1980. There have been a few lengthy stays in the shop and in storage for some months after shipping from the UK but the car has essentially been running throughout. I drive it every weekend, weather permitting; being in Texas that's pretty much year-round. Passed Texas state inspection test in July.
Interior is good for a 50 year old car that's never had any refurbishing. The original wood steering wheel is cracked and now taped but serviceable and can easily be refurbished. Walnut dash is in excellent shape. UK radio does not work in the US- I've taken the speakers out but still have them and will include along with all odds and ends and spare parts I have collected over the years. The passenger side window is perspex, not original glass. Passenger side seatbelt strap is torn. Very slight fuel leak from the back carburetor otherwise the engine is running very well. Rev counter reads 1, 000 rpm too high and Temp gauge does not work, all other instruments and gauges working. Glove box fiber board needs replacing.
