1967 Lotus Europa Series 1 with only 17K original miles! Early VIN# 46-0276 (NO title) Last on road in 1970 (according to the old NJ inspection sticker). Met with a minor front end accident crunching the fiberglass forward nose section. Was impounded and kept in dry indoor storage ever since. Has “matching numbers” original complete engine. Head was pulled for unknown reason and sitting in front seat. Assume an engine rebuild is necessary. Evidence also of a prior repaint in original color present (overspray). Frame appears quite sound with only surface rust evident, but most of frame is hidden from view. See pictures of exposed areas to assess for yourself. No evidence of structural failure or compromising of front suspension attachment points to T-frame section.
Has most all of the unique S1 features including: super nice rear tail lights, lack of front turn signal parking light “bumps” or “warts”, side marker Lucas/Sparto amber lights (one extra fixture), thumb button door openers without exterior handles, side indents at door openers, aluminum dash panels (missing center one w/ gauges), fixed molded-in, non-adjustable seat placements in rear bulkhead (actual seat padding/material missing), fixed plexi-glass door window design, but someone installed triangular fronts with removeable panels (note: NO storage pockets in doors) so door is ready for complete single fixed window replacements, nice dog dish wheel covers and nice original beauty trim rings (embellishers).
Car rolls freely. Broken windshield now removed and rear “letter slot opening” window missing. Doors open and shut like new, no sagging. Has rear trunk bin in nice condition. Has spare wheel/tire and a bucket of odds & ends misc. parts. Comes with Bill of Sale only, NO title. This is a very good original car, fairly complete, and should be a straight forward restoration project. This is your chance to restore the rarest, earliest and original sleek design as Colin Chapman intended for the Europa! Less than 300 were ever made!

The Series 1 or S1 Europa (also known as Lotus Type 46) was announced for sale to European markets on December 20, 1966. The first cars were delivered in France in February 1967. The S1 was fitted with a modified Renault 16 1470 cc inline-four engine and a 4-speed gearbox. The engine was a special 82 hp (61 kW) version (as opposed to the 52 hp (39 kW) generated in standard form). Lotus associated the affordable but lightweight Renault engine and gearbox to the revolutionary Europa longitudinal mid-engined layout, inverting the gearbox's crown wheel on its pinion gear to avoid having four reverse gears. The S1 weighed 610 kg (1512 lb), Autocar magazine achieved a top speed of 121 mph (195 km/h), and did 0–60 mph in 9.3 seconds. Of particular note, in excess of 0.9 g (8 m/s²) lateral acceleration was consistently achieved by Car magazine on road tires of that era.
Only 296 examples of the S1 were manufactured (chassis numbers from 460001 to 460296). These are the rarest on the market. These cars had extremely light and minimalist construction, with fixed side windows, fixed seats (adjustable pedals needing the use of tools), no door handles, no internal door covers, and an aluminum dashboard. The steel chassis central beam was sandwiched (incorporated) within the fibreglass bodywork, thus reinforcing stiffness, but making repair rather complicated.
