Price: US $13,000.00
Up for sale is an ultra rare, low mileage, totally original, hand crafted by Zagato- Maserati Biturbo Spyder injection.
The injection version of the Zagato was introduced in 1986 and stayed in production till 1989, when a re-bodied Spyder replaced it. Only a scarce 122 copies of this original masterpiece where ever built with the much improved injection version of the 2.5L V6.
The Biturbo Spyder is Zagato's first design for Maserati since the highly acclaimed A6G from the '50. The sensational design of this little car is very characteristic of the maestro, famous for his powerful, masculine and even elegantly raw lines.
Zagato's design fits to the Biturbo's character perfectly. The 188 bhp twin turbo V6 is mounted in an even sorter and lighter frame than the coupe's (only a 2.4 metres - 7.9 ft wheelbase), resulting in even grater maneuverability, body stiffness and brutal pull.
Before the turbos kick in, the Zagato is a typical Italian luxury car- comfortable and effortlessly fun to drive. Rev both turbos to into life, and this little Maserati becomes absolutely ballistic. Due to the turbo kick, the acceleration feels much more impressive even than the sensational for it's time 6 seconds figure. The substantiational amount of overstear, expected from such a short and powerful RWD car is controllable and precisely prediclable once mastered. It engages your total attention, making you forget the luxurious leather interior and comfortable ride. In the right hands, a Zagato Biturbo can be a very fast car.
The car presented here is a rare original and low mileage time bubble. It still wears the original Zagato workshop black paint and tan interior, showing astonishingly little rust. As can be seen in the photos - there is some on the front clip and in the lower right side of the windshield frame. the rest of the car is solid and rust free. Most of the original paint still shines nicely. Original luxurious interior is intact as can be expected from such a low mileage car. Top needs replacement.
The car was stored in a collection not driven for quite a few years and will probably need attention, however the engine has good compression, gearbox shifts great and the turbos kick in as they should without smoking. It starts, runs and drives very fast and smooth and sounds great.
It is being sold as is but you are welcome to come and test it in person before bidding.
As '60 Maserati cars were affordable in the '90, and '70 in the '00, I'm sure such a rare '80 Maserati Zagato is a solid investment in 2016.
