Description:

1959 Mercedes 180 with a 190 Motor. This car is a very nice driver. It looks good and drives very well. I have owned it for 5 years. the woman I bought it from owned it for 35 years. It has been garaged all the time I've owned it. It sat in a garage in Palo Alto for the previous 25.
Odometer reads 95K. I think we can assume it has turned over once.
Details: Painted a lighter gray than the original DB190 by the previous owner years ago. It still looks good and draws admiring glances. Even the door jambs were painted. Some scratches and blemishes, but overall OK. No evidence of any major accidents. Th'e body looks quite straight.
Chrome bumpers are pitted but still shine a bit.
Interior was redone in tan vinyl in the original pattern. Again, looks good. Door panels and dash were dyed to match the seats.
Headliner appears to be original. Old but not torn. New repro threshold mats.
Work that I have done while I have had it.:
New repro plastic heater boxes and stainless steel heater pipes. All too often lacking on these cars since the originals were cardboard and the heater pipes rust out. $800 in parts. It would probably cost you $2, 000+ to have a shop do this.
Rebuilt carburetor $350
Rebuilt generator $125
New engine mounts $80
New trans mount $75
New tires with only a few hundred miles on them. Size is 185-80-13 which is the modern equivalent of the original size. $450
New threshold rubber $179
Retractable shoulder seat belts installed in front. Only one belt installed in the back. $100
New electronic 123 distributor, bosch blue coil, and plug wires. $525.
About $3, 000 in parts . Antifreeze, oil and filter. Not including my labor. I dry ice blasted the undercoating off.
The brakes were done 10+ years ago by the previous owner. New brake cylinders up front and new hoses all around. I had all 4 drums off and it all looks good. (see photos)
The motor was changed at some point to a later 190. Compression is good in all 4 cylinders 135- 145.
What the car needs: new rear muffler. I doesn't sound very loud though. Idler arm bushing. It has slight play. Windshield has some scratches that can be polished out. Could use a new gasket. Needs door and trunk seal.
All in all a nice looking driver quality car. Not restored, but not priced like one.
More pictures coming when I figure out how to load them.
International buyers welcome. I am 10 miles from the port of Oakland, California. I can deliver to a freight forwarder there. Local buyers are welcome to come and inspect the car personally. Car is listed locally. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
