1971 Mercedes 280 SE 3.5
You don't have to chase parts for this one.
After long years in the Texas sun and improper storage this rare and desireable car is awaiting a full restoration.
I have recently acquired this car and many more from a large collection. We have already sold several and have managed to get them all running prior to the sale.
I took extra effort with this one as I had a convertible version in 1972 and thought it was an amazing car then as I do now.
We pulled the plugs, soaked all the cylinders with marvel mystery oil, pulled the valve covers (extremely clean inside) oiled the cams and checked them for corrosion (none found) turned it over by hand with only normal resistance.
I had a key made put a battery in it, checked the points and injectors, all fired, bypassed the fuel pressure regulator with a universal fuel pump and after about 4 tries it started and ran for several minutes, with no unwanted noises.
All the power windows worked.
It has Behr Factory Air Conditioning
Every piece of trim and all knobs appear to be there.
All the wood is there but will need to be refinished and re veneered.
The body will need both quarter panels,
the trunk lid
and both full floors, the longitudinals on both sides appear very solid.
Both wells on the side of the trunk pan and possibly the rear inner wheel house will probably need to be patched or replaced as well, they both have holes right behind rear wheels. the panels behind the rocker moldings appear good with the exception of the right side in front of the rear wheel.
All the glass is very good.
The original radio is still in the dash but the face plate, knobs and base and fader levers are in the trunk. It has it's original Becker Cassette player.
The correct original seats with headrest are there, t
he seat tracts move freely and the stainless trim is in the trunk. The Console is very nice and unmolested.
Bumpers are good and the only molding needed is the upper right rear window molding.
The ignition key fits the doors as well.
When you look at the photos notice the distance above the front tires to the fenders, this is the normal factory space which indicates to me that the mileage shown is probably actual. Most of these that have not had the front springs replaced sit really low in the front which indicates a hundred thousand miles or more.
There is no title as it was lost many years ago, It will come with a bill of sale but I can get a clear title in about 3 to 4 weeks.
