Description:

This is a beautiful and well-maintained 1985 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo Diesel Sedan with automatic transmission. It is the original Diamond Blue Metallic color with blue leather seats and a perfectly working electric sliding sunroof. The car is in original condition and has 199, 020 miles on it, and can be rated as excellent. If it was 1995 and you saw this car you could comment that it was well taken care of inside and out. I have the original window sticker, which shows the price, as well as the extra options purchased, such as leather seats, instead of MB Tex leather. From front to back, bumpers are all intact and in great condition. Head lamp covers and frames are in good condition with no major cracks. Chrome, hood ornament and aluminum grill are near perfect. Rubber molding around windshield shows normal wear, but is sealed tight. Side moldings are excellent. Wipers function perfectly at all variations. Windshield and all glass is excellent with no chips. Door handles inside and outside all function perfectly, as do all door locks on the vacuum system. Rubber gaskets around door jams are all in good condition. Cloth upholstery around door frames are not torn, but acceptably faded. Exterior paint condition is very good with absolutely no fading, with a glossy shine, no peeling and only a microscopic chips here and there from normal driving and parking lot conditions. Last year I had the roof, part of the hood and trunk touched up professionally according to code, as I felt the paint finish was thinning. This step enabled me to maintain its original condition look without question. The underside does not show any signs of rust that I can see. The interior is something to be proud of with leather seats in original blue and no fading. I had some split seams in the back seat repaired to match. The original emergency kit is intact and the rear dash is perfect. The instrument panel functions perfectly, including clock display and all gauges. The lower portion of the wood console around the shifter is in good condition, but has some hairline cracks that are hardly visible, but can be felt to the touch. The rubber around the shifter is intact, though has some cracks from normal usage. The upper portion of the wood console where the a/c controls are, as well as the sunroof control, etc. does not show cracks and is very nice. The dash is not faded, but has some hairline cracks from the sun and the previous owner. I had it repaired professionally and installed a carpet dash cover to maintain the repair. All other wood trim is near perfect. All controls for options such as passenger side mirror, electric antenna, sunroof, wipers, rear cabin light switch, passenger mirror light, horn, cigarette lighter, glove box light and dome light all function normally. Cruise Control has never worked. Fog lights work and are yellow to original spec. The glove box lever is sensitive, but functions fine with tlc. Driver's, front and rear right passenger windows all work excellent. Doors open and shut smoothly and have that wonderful Mercedes tightness. The trunk compartment looks almost new.
DRIVING: The car drives excellent, shifts well, has turbo power upon acceleration and steers, brakes, and handles as it was designed. The steering is tight with no dysfunctional play and the braking system is perfect. The A/C was updated at a cost of over $3000 and blows cold. The vent control for the middle AC vents sometimes doesn't open all the way, but I keep it open with a thin chopstick that is barely visible.
ENGINE: This was the best engine MB ever made, because of it's durability, reliability and efficiency. The engine has never been steam cleaned to it's favor, because it looks good for a 30 year old vehicle. The radiator is factory and was installed new about 4 years ago. The fuse box was replaced around that time, as was the ignition key. The battery is about two years old.
HISTORY: I purchased the car from a relative of the original owner who had inherited it. The original owner was a school teacher in northern California and kept impeccable records. The vehicle has never been in any accidents and has a clean title. I live in Los Angeles and the car has always been in California and garaged. Her and her husband who was an engineer repaired or replaced anything that was ever in question, including shocks, A/C, water pump, etc. The oil was changed regularly and the car was garaged and obviously babied, otherwise I would have never purchased it from the relative. I bought the car when it had 160, 000 miles on it. I've used it as a second car for the past 5 years. I've been very happy with it and I hate to sell it because I love vintage cars and old school German engineering. It gets great mileage at 20 to 28 mpg. I have all service and maintenance history from the day it left the showroom. The tires are good for another 20-30 thousand miles and the breaks are half way through. All hoses, seals and gaskets are in good condition. My philosophy with the car, as my mechanic knows, is to be proactive with maintenance, unless it makes no sense. The car burns no oil and does not blow blue smoke under normal driving conditions. For a diesel it is really a great driver and I've taken it to San Diego, as well as San Francisco. I must say it is one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. There is a perfectly functioning after market, but older, removable face, stereo with single CD player. Stations play clearly. I'm selling simply because I bought a Mercedes wagon and in the same color. Last note; when you sit in this car, whether it's the driver seat or passenger seat, because the seats are firm and well maintained, you feel as though you've been taken back in time to the 80's and have spent the original window sticker price of $33, 673. Feel free to email me with any questions.

“If this car was only 5 years old you'd say it looks and drives fantastic. It's in beautiful shape and has been very well taken care of. Exterior & paint in excellent condition. Interior leather in excellent condition with no tears. Rear left side window sticks intermittently but motor is good. Trunk spring attachment left side is functioning, but needs a little solder. Some discoloration from application and removal of wheel balancing weights and bolts where tire and rim meet, but powder coat is near perfect.”
