Description from various car enthusiasts:
This particular car is the last year of the Porsche built special. As a 1994 its official company designation swapped with the rest of the lineup to E500 from 500E. This car comes debadged for added stealth, though the bulging wheel arches are an easy distinguishing factor from a more average W124 model.
Mercedes and Porsche really did the E500 right, it wasn’t just a big engine stuffed into a chassis that wasn’t prepared. The engineers and designers took time to carefully consider what they wanted as the outcome for the E500 and as such made proper modifications to other systems. One can not say this enough: The E500 is not a 300E with a 5.0 liter engine. Giving the car special handbuilt construction gave Mercedes an extra marketing point, it gives the E500 itself a hint of the uniqueness that harkens to earlier days of coach built classics.
Owners paid significantly for the pleasure of driving the E500 new. Prices topped out at just about $90, 000. To put that in perspective, at the time, a BMW M5 would set you back only in the mid $60k range and you could just about buy two Audi S4 models for the price of one 500E.
A total of apx. 10, 300 500Es slowly rolled out of the factory. It is important to note that the E500 is not an AMG model, this is sometimes confused. The E500 came at a time when AMG was still not fully under control of Mercedes and these were 100% factory cars. AMG did produce the awesome E60, which was a 500E with a 6.0 liter power plant.

When you inspect an E500 up close it is rare to find problems in build quality, more often any problems are do solely to owner neglect.
From 1990 to 1994 (model years 19911994), Mercedes-Benz sold a high-performance version of the W124, the Mercedes- Benz 500E. The E500was created in close cooperation with Porsche each E500 was hand-built by Porsche, being transported back and forth between the Mercedes plant and Porsche’s Rossle- Bau plant in Zuffenhausen, Germany during assembly taking a full 18 days to complete each model. Design began in 1989 and into 1991. Called ’500E’ through
model year 1993, for model year 1994 it was face-lifted along with the rest of the range and renamed to ‘E500.’
The 500E had a naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 engine derived from the 500 SL roadster. Sports car braking performance also came from SL components front SL500 300 mm disks with 4-piston calipers came installed on the 1992 and early 1993 cars. The later 1993, and all 1994 cars came with the upgraded 320 mm set taken from the 600SL. Rear brakes on all years were 278 mm brakes from the 500 SL. In the USA, the 500E came fully equipped. The 500E was only with four seats in left hand drive, with the four leather seats supplied by Recaro (the fronts heated). Called the “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” by the press, performance tests of the day yielded impressive results 0100 kmh (062 mph) times of 5.5 to 6.0 seconds and acceleration through the quarter-mile (0.4 km)
