This is a beautiful and rare 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SL R107 Euro Roadster. It is VIN #WDB10704612001401, the European version of the more common 560SL which was the model prepared for release in the United States. The differences are notable. The Euro Roadster includes a V-8 generating more horsepower (240HP) than the US version that runs and drives great, wire wheels, a trunk spoiler, locking differential and more attractive European lights and bumpers. Other features include PS, PB, PW, A/C and dual rearview mirrors. There were 1297 of these produced in 1982, of which very few found their way to the United States.
It is a triple-black convertible with both the soft and hard tops included along with Mercedes-Benz wire wheels. Wheels display minor curb rash. It has 142k miles. It was listed during a recent appraisal as being in #2 Very Good overall condition with a rated value of $20, 500. It has been garage kept and meticulously maintained by its current owners since they purchased the car in 2000. The car is currently in South Carolina. Its earlier life was in Texas. The rust free exterior features black paint that is all original. Although it has been touched up, the paint maintains its original luster with only minor flaws. The interior is in very good condition also, with upholstery that was redone roughly 10 years ago. The dash has minor age cracks. All gauges are fully functional including the clock. Although mostly original, it does have an Alpine stereo.
The owner is older and has some health issues that are forcing sale. Note the European vin number may show as invalid in the online U.S. ad which is understandable. This is a great opportunity to have either a great classic driver quality car or to restore a European version of rare Mercedes-Benz.
