1974 MERCURY CAPRI
44K original miles
Five years ago, I purchased this car from California where it had been
sitting since 1978. The water had gotten into the trunk and rusted out
the spare tire well and some damage in the lower rear quarters, but
very repairable. At the same time, I purchased a California rust free
rolling shell in primer and perfect rust free body. Only 44K miles from
1974 when it was parked for a blown head gasket ! Go figure...
I combined the rust free shell and used this car as the parts donor car.
Pictures of my project car are below so you can see what you can do
with this shell. It is very hard to find solid Capri's that have not died by
the rust worm or turned into rally cars with fender wells cut.
I have a Capri parts expert that can help you find any parts needed
and even has sources for reproduced parts in Europe.
I am building my car for my wife as a duplicate to one I bought new
in 1974 and we dated in. Traveled our honeymoon trip and first few
years of our marriage. We traded it when our first child was due in
1980 and regretted it forever. Ours will be ready for our 40th
anniversary this October for our anniversary date !!!
As kids we all did crazy things... I repainted my car in 1971 Corvette Ontario
Orange with 1972 Cadillac Gold striping. My new car is being recreated the
same paint scheme. Recreate your Capri and relive your early driving years.
The hood is not attached on this car and does align perfectly.
The hinges were removed but I believe I have them and will
install before pickup to secure the hood.
Inspections prior to auction end are not a problem and are encouraged.
