This auction is for a 1973 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible that would make for a good daily driver or full restoration project.
It was parked and just sitting under a carport since it was last registered back in 1992. It had been kept relatively dry, but was covered with dirt, leaves, and pine needles. (it was stored in the Northern California foothills).
It has a 351C 2bbl, automatic, A/C, pwr driver seat. The miles are 89, 406.
In order to get it running, I had to get the fuel tank cleaned, flushed, and coated. I also cleaned and repaired the sending unit, and replaced the fuel lines. It now starts, runs, and idles well enough to move around, which is very good for having sat for over 20 years, and without a tune-up. The a/c is not working and I had to unstick one rear brake drum.
It was previously repainted. The bottoms of both quarter panels are rusted, (the right side worse than the left side). The trunk floor has surface rust, plus a couple rust holes as well, that were likely caused by condensation. The aftermarket wheel covers were laying in the trunk and they're also a bit rusty. The convertible top works, but has some tears in the vinyl. The front bumper has a couple small dents. The interior is in fair condition. The plastic lower dash, glove box door, and console each have a crack in them. The door panels have patches over the arm rests.
The title had been lost by the owner, so it is being sold with lien sale papers and a California bill of sale. PLEASE NOTE: If you are not from California, its a good idea to check your states DMV registration requirements prior to bidding on or purchasing this vehicle. This is sold AS-IS. Also, after years of sitting, the tires are dry and cracked, so it would be best to have this trailered.
