The year is 2001. My grandfather was being released from the hospital due to a minor stroke...he was 79. My father and I went to pick him up and he told us life is short...take me to the Mercury dealer I want a new Grand Marquis (he was a lifelong Mercury owner, and never owned any other brand of car). We went right to the dealer and this car was on the showroom floor...2 hours later we were driving it home. I was in the backseat and as far as I know no one else had, or has ever been, in the back seat since then.
My grandfather drove it sparingly until he passed away. It has spent most of its life sitting in the garage. It was primarily driven out on nice days and a few trips here and there. Very rarely in rain and NEVER in the snow. (He hated driving in inclement weather). It now has just over 24, 000 original miles on it. It is being sold to settle the estate. It runs and drives excellent.
The color is brown, but under the sun or bright lights it has a maroon wine color tint or sheen to it, making it very appealing...understated elegance which was how my grandfather used to describe it. And when it was in the showroom, under those lights, that is what closed the deal for my grandfather to buy it.
It was never smoked in, and never had any pets in it either.
Car is rust free. And as far as I'm concerned, salt free, as it was never driven in the snow.
Clean undercarriage too...see pictures.
Sometimes you can even smell the faint new car smell in it.
Interior and trunk compartment are blemish free. (see pictures).
This car is safe, solid and dependable.
If you're looking for a well-maintained and ultra-low mileage Mercury that was babied from day one, this is it.
As far as I know it was only serviced by the Mercury dealer.
It has a fairly new battery which is about 2 years old.
Oil was changed every 2, 500 miles and was with synthetic oil only, with Motorcraft filters used exclusively. (That was his preference).
Always used premium gasoline (That was his preference as well)

Understand that this is a used older car, so don't expect it to be perfect. It might have some minor imperfections from being a 14 year old car, but nothing major.
These cars are no longer being produced and are the last of a breed, a traditional, full-size, big bodied car that floats down the road. Driving this car is akin to driving your living room around. The car is tight, drives smooth as silk and drives straight as well, it is surprisingly nimble for its size.
