Description:

Up for bids is a 1969 Mercury Montego MX convertible. The undercarriage on this car is as solid as can be, it appears to have been a Southern car or only driven in the summer. The frame rails, torque boxes and floors are solid and show no sign of rot that can be seen. Rear frame rails have surface rust only and are solid. Trunk area is completely rust free. It has a 351 windsor motor that is not original to the car from the history I was provided. I am uncertain to the miles on the motor in the car. The car does run and lot drive, but it needs some mechanical attention. It could use a tune up and just go through the brakes to make it all road worthy. I have only personally lot driven it, never had it down the road. The ignition wiring will need some attention, I cannot get key to start the car, but I can start it by jumping the solenoid. It will need new seat covers both front and back. Carpet has been replaced with OEM loop carpet in black and the dash pad has been replaced with a black pad from a Cyclone. The paint on the car is new from a few years ago and was done by the owner previous to me. It is a good paint job, but will need some touch up with a few chips here and there. There is some overspray in the wheel well area and I think the whole car needs to be wet sanded yet, but the finish is mirror like already, with only a few blemishes. Some of the panels look like they may need shimming or adjusting for perfect fit. There is one chip in the paint on the driver door where the door opened too far and chipped the edge and gouged the door edge about the size of a pencil eraser. Car will need all new weatherstrip but the trim pieces all appear to be there. Trim is all in the trunk, I have not laid it out and verified that every piece is accounted for, but all the grill, badges and major trims are in good shape. Car is equipped with front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, automatic transmission and 351 windsor motor with 2 barrel carburetor. Also included is a brand new black convertible top that will need to be installed yet. The convertible rails are in good shape and operate and lock like they should. Unsure if the motor works for the top, but there is a motor located behind the rear seat. Buyer must arrange for pickup of car and shipping is not available. It can be picked up locally.
Pro's
New carpet, new convertible top, new paint, new dash pad, completely solid car with no rust and body filler. Very close to be a finished car, all the hard work is done. Car lot drives and everything is operable. All trim and finish pieces seem to be accounted for and in good shape. Grill and light bezels are for sure all there. Parts are readily available, same car as the Torino, Fairlane, and Cyclone.
Con's
A few minor nicks in the paint job, needs ignition work(key won't start it but the car does start jumping the solenoid) engine needs tune up and engine bay dressed up. Seats need new covers. Bleed and adjust brakes. Trim pieces are extremely hard to find for these cars(fortunately it appears to all be there)

“Project car that has had a fresh paint job, but need minor touch up and needs to be reassembled. Motor and wiring need some attention, but car does run. Ignition doesn't start the car but it can be started and driven by jumping solenoid. Motor does run smooth and lot drive. Minor nicks on the paint job need to be touched up. Panels should be shimmed and adjusted for perfect alignment. Interior seat covers are torn and need replacement. Car does have mirror like finish, but should be wet sanded and buffed.”
