1954 Mercury Monterey Convertible
1954 Mercury Monterey Promo Film by Ed Sullivan
Before
WWII Mercury was just a division of Ford. After WWII it was decided to make Mercury more upscale and became a
division of Lincoln. Many of the styling
cues from Lincoln were used on the production Mercury’s. In 1954 the Mercury power plant was changed
from the V8 flathead to the V8 Y-Block overhead valve engine that became
legendary.
There
are many collectors who believe that the 1954 Mercury with its clean lines and
wonderful styling cues is one of the most beautiful convertibles ever made
during the 1950s. Here at MissChiTown we
certainly tend to agree that the 1954 Mercury may be one of the most beautiful
convertibles that Ford Motor Company made during the 1950s.
1954 Mercury Monterey Convertible for sale in this auction.
The car in this ad has been completely restored both
cosmetically and mechanically and you can tell that there has been great
attention to detail. Just take a look at
the top and see how taught it is without any wrinkles. You know that it had one of the finest
upholsterers doing the work to get this kind of results. There are no funky hubcaps or funky wheels on
this car. It has the original hubcaps
and all the original styling trim just as it came out off the factory line in
1954. The color is a wonderful color for
this car and the interior is beautiful. The engine compartment is highly detailed and mechanically, the private
seller has told us that this car goes down the road with all its power and is
just as smooth as can be. The owner
tells us that he replaced the tires with new Coker tires at a cost of about
$1, 500.00. The tires have very few
miles. Please note that the private
seller on this car decided to improve the performance and put on an updated
carburetor and air cleaner to match but he still has the original air cleaner
and original carburetor that will go with the car.
The
private seller has provided the following information.
The seller believes the 95, 951 miles to be original.
The car
was repainted around 1995 in the original off white color and tells us it was
never rusted. New chrome and top. The navy blue and white interior was done in
the original style stitching. The seller
tells us most everything else about the car is original. The original carburetor and original air
cleaner will go with the car. The tires
are new. The original radio works but
the clock is not currently working. The
glove box lights, courtesy lights and vacuum wipers are working. Brand new cloth covered style wiring. 6-volt system. Even
the power brake unit was rebuilt. The
power brakes booster was rebuilt and has a lifetime warranty. The private seller purchased this car from a
gentleman who owned it for nearly a quarter of a century. The current owner tells us that he purchased
the car because he was so impressed with the quality of the restoration. The private seller tells us that the car
starts, stops and drives beautifully and that he has driven it on 100 mile
round trips.
If you are looking for a car for your museum that is just a
knock out or you are looking for a car that is not only a knock out but also a
great tour car that could travel across the country – then take a second look
at this car. You just don’t often find a
1954 Mercury convertible in top-flight restored condition. The clean lines of this car, the excellent
color scheme and upholstery, right tires and all the detailing just make it
into a fantastic show car. This is a car
that you will be happy to have in your garage. You will have more pride of ownership then you can imagine. A truly exciting collectible.
