1940 Mercury Other

Mercury Other (1940)
for sale

Price: US $15,000.00

Description:

1940 Mercury Eight 2 door sedan.. 1 of 15, 072 made. . This car is extremely rare! Essentially it is the same as a 1939/1940 Ford, but a lot rarer with subtle changes to body and trim..
The car runs, drives, and stops great.. It has a few small dings, and some paint patina... It isn't a 100% perfect car, however it is 75 years old.. Just being honest... But i do not think you will ever see a straighter unrestored 1940s car.
Clear title in hand
It has what appears to be the original 95hp Mercury flathead V8 and 3 speed manual trans... This car is EXTREMELY straight and solid.. It appears that it has been well cared for it's entire life.. From the cars condition I assume that the 78k miles on the odometer is the original mileage (when we removed the headlights they were stamped 1941) .. However i can not say 100% that the mileage is accurate.. But i'd put my money on it..
The mercury also appears to only have been repainted once in it's life.. The Fire Wall is still the original HENRY FORD BLACK. The engine still appears to be original paint. There is ZERO bondo or filler in this car that we could find or detect... The floors and trunk are solid (the trunk recess has some minor paint/rust flake but no holes) The rest of the trunk is flawless. The spare tire appears to be original and never used... The frame is extremely solid.. The car has all of it's original exterior trim (it has brand new headlight bezel rings installed, but the originals rings are included in sale, the originals are slightly pitted, the new ones are perfect). The car even has the hard to find plastic dash trim pieces that were Mercury specific (the dash pieces are not original, but they were $700 for handmade repro dash trim). All the gauges in the dash work. The headlight and tail lights work.
The doors shut like a brand new car. The front windows go up and down, one of the rear windows may need some attention as it has fallen off the track once, the other rear window works perfectly.
As i said before, The floors are SOLID, The trunk is SOLID.. The Car is Solid and STRAIGHT..
The car does have 1 spot of rust on the very bottom of the passenger cowl the size of a quarter (picture included). If I didn't tell ya it was there, you wouldn't see it (included in pictures)..
It does have a very nice new cloth interior (not the original interior covers, but relatively period correct on the original seat frames). The black carpet is new, and the tweed headliner is new. The car has also been completely re-wired with original style cloth wrapped wiring (handmade from a specialty old school mercury wiring company).
Car does not have the radio, or factory radio delete plate, what is there is just a piece of stainless
This Merc does have the original and rare heater package (heater isn't hooked up now)
The radiator was removed, pressure tested and sealed, and all new stainless radiator upper hoses were just installed.. Car runs cool...
The undercarriage and chassis is kinda dirty, it doesn't appear to have ever been repainted. But it is solid.. There is surface rust and dirt/grime but very solid and no rot.
This car could be driven as is (it has absolutely perfect REAL patina).. Or it is a prime candidate for a full resto (because it is sooooo complete.)..
We also have 4 original 40 ford/mercury steel rims for the car that I would throw in for the right offer on the rims (sold separately)... We planned on installing the steelies and a dropped axle but I never got around to it because the car drives soooo nice with the radials that are on it. It is an awesome family hot rod/cruiser.. The car shows well as is at car shows..
The rims that are on the car are chrome reverse rims and caps (they are plasti-dipped which can easily be peeled off to re-expose the chrome rims with WD40)
The Mercury is located in northern KY. If you have any questions, call me or my brother or email (ryan 8592407986 or kevin 8598021984). Thanks
We reserve to end the auction early because the car is also for sale locally. Being sold as local pick up only. We will assist however we can with shipping. Thanks, and Happy Bidding!! If you need any other info or pictures let us know
