MG MGA 1600 Mark II (1962)
for sale

Price: US $5,000.00

Description:

Offered for sale is a rare and absolutely stunning example of a beautifully refurbished, entirely solid, matching numbers, final year 1962 MGA 1600 MK II Roadster, finished in ceaselessly tasteful Dark Red over a Black interior with a matching canvas soft top and full tonneau cover. Set apart from its more ubiquitous elder siblings by the distinctive recessed grill and horizontal tail lights, the MGA MK II is one of the most desirable models MG ever produced, the perfect entry level sports car, both in terms of enjoyment and the opportunity for investment upside. The recipient of a restoration in 2002, this car has been exceptionally well-cared for by its enthusiast owner, yielding the lovely example you see here today.
The gorgeous Dark Red finish is deep and lustrous, entirely consistent and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections, none of which appear in the pictures or detract from the car’s considerable appeal. The body is entirely straight, retaining consistent panel fits and gaps throughout, and all of the bright work and glass is excellent. The original steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in correct Michelin radial tires with plenty of remaining tread. The original frame and undercarriage is clean, correct entirely solid, evidencing a car that was never subjected to the elements.
Also addressed during the restoration, the car’s interior is in excellent condition, the black seats, interior panels and carpeting showing negligible wear. The dash is original, bearing the patina of a sparingly-used 50+ year old car and it houses fully functional Smiths gauges and The full tonneau cover is in great shape, as are the side curtains, and unmolested trunk houses the original spare tire, tire cover, jack and changing tool. The canvas soft top is in excellent condition, retaining a clear rear window.
The car is also in excellent mechanical condition, the original 1622cc engine starting easily, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original transmission’s gears. The 75k miles showing on the odometer are believed to be original and the dual SU carburetors function beautifully with strong and even compression across all cylinders. Ride quality is excellent and the car drives and brakes straight and true. MGA 1600s are wonderful road cars and this car is no exception, offering plenty of power, handling nimbly and offering a visceral yet comfortable experience from behind the wheel.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a restored, beautifully presented, matching numbers MGA 1600 Mark II Roaster, one that can be reliably and comfortably driven and enjoyed for years to come. Whether it ends up in the hands of serious collector or just a weekend enthusiast who wants to take it to club-sponsored events now and then, we know its next owner will be as proud to own it as its prior.

We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic rotating collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this MGA (if the price is right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.
For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.
