Looking to buy a house in the spring so Im downsizing my fleet. I purchased this car about a year and a half from a car collector who took great care of it. His collection included some very cool cars including a TVR, Caterham, and Morgan. He was a great owner and kept all his cars on a driving and maintenance schedule. Since then, I did a bunch of work to the car, then sold it to a buddy, then bought it back, then did a bunch more work to the car. I'll list as many details as I can remember. Please contact me with any questions.
BodyNew paint job a few months ago. Very close to the original color. Not a restoration quality job but very sharp. A small bubble(not rust) has formed since. Its clearly shown in picture.. A small amount of rust was repaired on the driver door bottom and on the outer skin in front of both rear wheels. Many things were shaved. ..marker lights, wipers, mirrors, antenna, etc. I wanted a clean smooth look. We also removed the bulge on the hood and lowered the MG badge. I think it looks great. I removed the original rubber bumpers and fitted custom urethane valences front and rear with fog lights added to the front. Another custom touch was adding a pair of side markers for the front turn signals. All 5 tires match and have great tread. The wheels were painted silver and I added new trim rings. There is no rust on the undercarriage of the car. None on the floor boards or trunk either. After paint I installed new rear lights, side moldings, door handles, cowl vent, and snaps for top. The convertible top is in fair shape with a few small tears. I never ever drive with the top up(too tall) so I wasn't worried about it. Comes with a tonneau cover as well in great shape.
InteriorThe interior was very clean when I got it. No rips in the seats, dash, or any other interior materials. The door panels are new. Smaller period correct steering wheel. The shift knob has worn paint as seen. The radio and heater controls are inoperable. All gauges and lights work. The tachometer shows rpms too fast. I think its because it is for a car without overdrive. Missing carpet section that goes over battery on rear package tray.
MechanicalOriginal 1.8 engine. 4 speed with overdrive trans. The overdrive is desirable and makes a big difference cruising the highway. The original carbs have been swapped to a Weber DCOE 45 with intake manifold and linkage. Aftermarket exhaust header. Electronic ignition. Magnecor plug wires. Oil cooler added. New water pump. The car starts and runs well. There was a clanky noise in the engine so I took it to an MG mechanic a year and a half ago. He diagnosed it as coming from a wrist pin. I purchased a replacement engine and transmission to install if the original failed. The original engine is still going strong with good oil pressure and compression(still noisy). The replacement engine and trans will be included in the auction. The extra trans is just a regular 4 speed. I watched the engine run before I bought it and all seemed well. There are a few leaks under the car but nothing terrible. Just a few spots in my garage after a drive. I put on new brake pads and rotors the first time I owned it. I also bought lowering suspension springs for the front and blocks for the rear. This lowered the car to the height of the early MGBs. I also installed many polyurethane suspension bushings under the car. There will be more new bushings included to do the rest. Comes with repair manual, original owners manual, and service/repair log for the last 10 years.
SummaryThis car is best suited for the person who wants a sharp looking weekend toy to take to a cruise night or out on the town. It is not a candidate for a full factory restoration due to all the custom body work and mechanical upgrades. Its great to drive and a ton of fun. My reserve price is low so someone can get a great deal on a cool car. If you have any questions, please contact me. I'll respond quickly. Ive tried to represent the car as accurately as possible. I don't want any surprises for the buyer. $500 paypal deposit within 3 days. Balance due within 7 days. Car can be driven home but spare engine and trans will need to be transported as well. If spare engine and trans aren't needed, I will subtract $500 from the purchase price. I am open to shipping the car. Buyer will make arrangements. Shipping company can pick up at my home or I can deliver the car to the shipping company within 20 miles from Virginia Beach. Thanks for looking, Bill
