1979 MGB Limited Edition For Sale @ Californiacar.com
This is a 1979 MGB Limited Edition.
The special model that MG released in small numbers as a tribute to the
end of production of the beloved model.
The MGB is really a motoring icon, and when MG pulled the plug on
production it really was the end of a era.
MG fans and collectors scrambled to get their hands on one of the final
ones and the Limited Edition sold out quickly.
For the North American market only 6668 examples were built in late 79
and early 80.
Each car that was a part of the Limited Edition release was outfitted
with several special parts that
were not available on other models
Front air dam
L.E. Five spoke alloy wheels, manufactured by GKN, with MG hub center
cap
Silver lower body stripes
Luggage rack
Leather covered, padded, three spoke steering wheel with a special
center hub.
A Limited Edition dash plaque installed on the glove box
This car has them all and it is in very good condition.
A California car since new, the car spent most of it's life in storage.
The odometer reads just under 55, 000 miles which is thought to be correct, but has
not been documented.
The car does show signs of a respray on the exterior, but all the
interior paint and under the front and rear lids is original.
Extremely solid and rust free example, body is very straight and as you
can see in the photos...she is a pretty one!
The car is not a perfect concours level example by any means, but it
is a very clean and presentable driver.
There are a few chips and scratches and small flaws.
The rear bumper has some scratches on the vertical surface as an
example...
In my picky opinion ... the car is probably a 7 1/2 out of 10.
Lights are working front and rear, horn functions, turn signals need
some fiddling
and the fuel gauge recently stopped working.
The clock however works, as does the interior light on the dash.
The Lucas electrics are typically not 100%, but this is nothing new in
the world of vintage British cars.
The luggage rack is in excellent shape.
The car has a clean California title and is currently on Non
Operation.
If sold in California it will be the buyer's responsibility to handle
the emissions testing, etc.
The car is being sold as-is, where-is with no warranty.
The engine room is clean and complete, but shows signs of normal age
and use.
It looks like all the goodies are in place which is a very good thing.
The engine starts quickly and runs strong. Brakes and steering are
good, the clutch and transmission seem quite sound.
The car was recently pulled from long term storage and has been tuned
and serviced.
It has been driven minimally since, just a few short hops around town.
Only things of note in here is that the air filter and smog filter
element should be changed.
And the nut that holds the cone on the air filter top is missing.
The tires on the car have good tread but have some cracks in the
sidewalls.
Might be a good idea to get new rubber if you plan to do a lot of
driving.
The car has all the proper aluminum wheels and center caps.
The stripes are correct and accurate for the Limited Edition model and
really look sweet.
The car is very stock and unmodified, adult owned, well treated.
The paint looks darn near flawless in these images!
Up close and under bright light you can see a few slight scratches and
some water spots, etc.
As mentioned before...it is not perfect, but as you can see above, it
is really clean overall.
Hard to see it in the pics but there is a very small wave in the hood
in one spot where someone sat on it.
There is a similar small wave in the boot lid from something leaning
against it...but you only notice these in the right light
at certain angles. Black shows everything, and if you are as picky as I
am...you will see it all.
Im kind of a nut when it comes to that I suppose...everyone that sees
the car thinks its awesome.
The trunk is very clean, the original spare is in place as well as the
jack and lug wrench in their original pouches.
A full tonneau cover is included.
Trunk is totally solid...no rust and no signs of any repair or
repainting in here.
Excellent
Triple wipers are one of my favorite details on these cars!
Front bumper and spoiler are in nice shape.
There is a small ding on the panel between the bonnet and the headlight.
Panel fit is very good on this car.
Underneath is all original and untouched.
Very solid stuff.
The dry climate has certainly served this car well.
In the rest of the world, finding one as dry and rust free as this one
is an extreme rarity!
The muffler looks good and solid.
The engine sounds great and runs smooth...upon decelleration it does
burble and pop a bit.
I know that this is a British car thing...a part of the signature
sound, but I think there may be a slight exhaust leak towards the front
that
makes it sound just a bit out of the norm.
Top frame is excelent and folds easily.
Carpet is in very good shape.
Door panels look very nice
Seats are excellent as well.
The speaker grille on the driver side is missing and I have not been
able to find a replacement.
The car has no radio by the way...just the factory block off plate in
the console. Drivers side window is sticky.
Seats are very nice
Dash does have a couple cracks.
The steering wheel too underneath the cover has some sun damage.
October 1979 production
54k miles and change on the odometer.
Actual miles are undocumented, but if the interior is all original and
in as nice shape as it is...it is certainly possible.
Carpet is in great shape...perhaps someone that really knows these cars
can tell if this is original or not.
It fits well and looks great.
Limited Edition dash plaque and keychain. I also have a Limited Edition
baseball cap that I will throw in!
The top is in really nice shape and the plastic windows are nice and
clear.
There is one small spot where the top frame pinched the top just behind
the drivers door
and the material ripped. It is a small spot that is easily patched from
behind.
It is small, you dont really see it unless you are looking...but it is
there.
The rest of the top is excellent
Wheels are all in nice shape and have the special center caps.
The tires as mentioned have excellent tread but some sidewall cracks.
The car sat in storage for 10 years prior to its revival, and these are
the tires that were on it.
They were not flat, the car was indoors, but the age has left its mark.
The front spoiler is a Limited Edition model item...I love the looks of
it.
When it comes to a rubber bumper MGB, you just cant beat black for a
body color.
It just flows so nicely.
In closing , this is a good car and it looks like it has always been a
good car.
Very clean, extremely solid, obviously well cared for, all stock, no
modifications.
Runs well, enjoyable driver with minimal quirks or issues.
Available for inspection at any time, happy to assist with shipping.
