I've been this car's steward since 1974. The odometer, which is original, shows 67, 483
miles and had around 25, 000 when I bought the car. The car was my daily driver for most of grad
school, and then was elevated to semi-retirement after I bought a Datsun truck
in 1980. Whatever the car has needed, it's pretty much received over the years. Not too many miles ago
but many years, probably around 1979, we put a new, heavy duty clutch into
it. We also rebuilt the engine at that
time. In the last few years it's
received new rear springs with urethane bushings, a new electronic fuel pump
and a front sway bar, also with urethane bushings, new front calipers and new
rear wheel cylinders. The differential
pinion seal has been replaced. It's
running SSBC Silicone brake fluid in both the clutch and brake hydraulics. The brake hoses are all stainless steel. There is an oil cooler, also with stainless
hoses. The water pump has been replaced, as has the alternator. It's pretty much
bone stock otherwise, including the air pump and air injection manifold which
many folks remove. The inner sills and rocker panels
were replaced, some floor work was done and the car painted in around 1985 or
so. We also replaced seat upholstery
and carpets at that time. Since that
time it's been garaged unless driven, and we've avoided most of the rain. Today it lives under a cover in a dry pole
barn. The underside of the car is
pretty much rust free. It holds coolant
without leaks, and the expansion tank is solid and in use. It's running the stock exhaust, which gives
it a nice snappy sound, and it sounds so great I routinely shift at 4500 in
first and second just for the fun and sound of it. Oil pressure is around 72psi cold, and 69psi
hot, down to 50psi at hot idle. It uses
a little oil and leaks a little oil, which is forgiveable in a British car, and
it's currently running Brad Penn 20-50. It sits on four 175/70-13 Bridgestone Potenzas which have been gently
used and have almost all the tread life left. I'm sad to part with it, but we've added some other cars to the
collection and this one just doesn't really fit a slot anymore. It's time to let someone else be the car's
steward, and keep it up to snuff for the next generation.
