1969 MG Other Roadster

MG Other Roadster (1969)
for sale

Price: US $7,000.00

Description:

One of only 4544 built 1968-69, and one of just 1757 roadsters built in 1969.. It has missed out on the last 22 years of Sun, wind, rain snow, salt , wear and tear. According to the previous owner, It was sidelined back in 1993 by a fried fuel pump, and then family and business obligations. I have enjoyed the finding and saving of this car , but find I no longer have the energy or dedication needed to go farther with it. It is in generally very good shape, It has been washed and waxed, but buffing and polishing would easily take the paint to a much higher level. As you can see from the photo of the heritage certificate, it was optioned with O.D., Wire wheels, Heater, Tonneau cover, Foldaway hood, and Cigar lighter. the Tonneau cover is missing. It has the OEM rubber mats , which are in excellent shape, with the foam under them.
I had intended to start the engine , but after cranking easily on the first no-ignition try, (to build oil pressure before starting ) , the starter bendix stuck, and so I stopped there. I took the cover off the fuel pump, and as the previous owner had indicated, it was bad, one of the components of the solid state control having fried. The gas tank was removed and drained when the fuel pump failed, and so it is ready to go. The odometer shows 20, xxx miles, but even though the car appears that it is correct, it cannot be verified. The previous owner said the O.D. did not work, and indicated the reason was a missing detent ball and spring. ( I will pass on the previous owner's contact info to the successful bidder.)
The brakes and clutch might work buy just changing fluid and bleeding them, but for safety will likely need more attention. Most of the accessories work, Lights ( Hella H-4's ), wipers, etc. The top has no cracks, rips or loose stitching , and the windows are pretty clear , needing only a light polish. Included in the sale are shop manuals and the September 2015 issue of the British magazine Classic and Sports Car , which features the MGC and explains the modifications available to improve some of the so-called short comings found in the early road tests.
The worst items on the car are the hole in the passenger floorboard, patched in-period by tack-welding sheet metal over it, and some slight bubbling on the bottom rear of the driver side front fender. Although the tires have plenty tread depth, they are badly checked and cracked and therefore unsuitable for road use. The car has had one respray of above average quality, and as those of you who were around then remember, the factory paint was cellulose, and after a few years , you just couldn't make it shine.
I have 5 new wire wheels (shown in the photo), that would be available to the successful bidder for $ 1200. Replacement cost would be right at $ 2000.00 from Coker, over $ 2500..00 from Moss.
Any and all questions are welcome, as is in-person inspection.
$ 1000 deposit within 4 days of auction close. Payment by cash, wire transfer, or PayPal if you pay their fees. ( they make that easy to do )I do not need any assistance in selling
