you don’t see these classic saloons here in the USA very
often. I need space NOW, so this car is being listed for a very low price with
a low reserve.
A very handsome and distinctive car. Many interesting features fitted
as standard such as the Smiths 'Jackall' four wheel hydraulic jacking system.
This consists of four hydraulic jacks located adjacent to the wheels that can
be lowered all at the same time to support the car entirely free of the ground, this enabled wheel changes and general maintenance. (And a fun way to show the car.) The front, rear or entire
car can be raised by a hand operated hydraulic pump located under the
engine bonnet. One of the first cars featuring rack and pinion steering with independent
front suspension. Other features worthy of note are the crank open front
windshield and a large sliding steel sunroof.
All original interior details are intact including the wood trim and
dash, front and rear ashtrays, adjustable telescopic steering column, rear seat
fold down armrest and more. Car has trafficators, which are not properly fitted
with the lenses so disconnected, but all the parts are available through the UK if you wish to
make operable. Currently fitted with Lucas “D” style dual tail and signal
lights. A great model for touring with a very large trunk. The spare tire fits
under the trunk through a removable door similar to a Triumph TR3. The spare
tire lid and surrounding area was damaged when the car was rolled off a trailer
by the prior owner so some rear body paint and easy finish work is needed. But the
body and paint are in excellent condition overall with good fit and proper gaps and all
the correct chrome trim. (In one photo the right side of hood is unlatched, when fully closed it all fits very well.) Lots of interesting details. What does this car need?
I have not run it in several years but it always started right up. It needs
reinforcement panels welded onto a few areas of the frame (as is very typical over the years.) Equipped
with the original single SU carb, but twin carbs from a TD or MGA are often
added to improve performance. Some also update the front brakes with MGB disc
brake parts, which are said to bolt right in. I redid the brakes and wheel
cylinder with original new Bronze brake cylinders from the UK when I purchased
the car. I also replaced the rear leaf springs at that time. The prior owner, who restored
the car, used it mostly for display. My intent was to modernize the cars
performance a bit and build it up to make a regular touring car of it. (Some
have fitted the Moss supercharger or even an MGB engine if you don’t want to
keep it proper and original as it is now.) It has comfortable seats for 4 adults
and has plenty of room in the trunks for bags. But alas, other projects have
taken all my attention. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a rather
rare MG that is very original, with an excellent body. With a very low price
you can take this car to it’s true potential as a fun car for those days when
your 2-seater does not afford enough space, (or further re-restore to show condition if you wish.) Take the family or dogs with
you! And if the weather is cold or rainy
you will be out of the elements! If you own a MGTC, TD, TF or other MG, or other British or classic car this
would be a great addition and you won't see another one at the show or going down the road! There is a highly supportive club in the UK with an
exceptional monthly newsletter. A full compliment of parts is available from them.
This car needs a new headliner and proper hubcaps, both of which are
available through the club and UK vendors. Not included is the extra horn and
Hella driving light, and the badge mounted on the front of the car (not proper parts for this car). The badge
bar is included along with documentation of the former restoration by the prior owner, (John Gary, former recording star from the 1960s and avit MG collector).
Naturally this vintage MG is sold as is.
Buyer must arrange for shipping, although if you live in New England I
might be willing to deliver the car to you upon full payment. PayPal deposit of
$1, 000 required within 24 hours of auction. Car is located in Southern New Hampshire about an hour from Boston and minutes from MHT airport if you wish to see the car.
These four-door saloons
have a classic styling that, like many automobiles in the immediate postwar years, hadn’t really been updated since the 1930s. All four doors are hinged at the
B-pillar, resulting in suicide doors in the front. The doors close with a
solid, positive “thud”. The engine is referred to as a slightly detuned version
of the same four-cylinder unit used in the TC. The YA offered more creature comforts than the bare bones T-Series
sports cars. Leather, original vinyls and wood appointments fit well with MG’s
then-traditional octagonal gauges to the Y-Types a more upscale fit and finish.
