Classic 1936 MG-TA Barn Find

This rare auto is a great barn find of an early pre-war MG-TA. We acquired it this summer, just as it is with only minor work performed recently to include: flushing of the fuel tank; overhaul of the brake master cylinder; replacement of two brake lines; cleaning of the carbs; and overhaul of the fuel pump. The chassis is # TA0384 and historically, the auto has been under the same ownership since the early 70’ and then placed in storage in 1980 until this summer. Our goal was to preserve its special “barn-find” state while bringing the car back to life. As the original fuel main/reserve valve was missing -- a temporary copper fuel line and a single 12V battery were installed to allow the car to start, run and drive. The car actually drives great for a 1936 vehicle that has been stored for 36 years!
The car appears to have had some body components replaced very early on in its life. We currently own other MG’s and our research indicates that the running boards are possibly TC and the rear fenders are either late TA or TC. The wheels are center laced like the late TA or TC wheels. The tires are obviously fair and should be renewed before driven on. The fuel tank appears to be correct as it has the two fuel pick up points. The shocks have been upgraded to TC style. According to factory records this chassis had a factory engine change. The current engine is a TA engine and runs well. Clutch, trans, shocks and brakes all feel very good. The odometer reads, 01546, but mileage is truly unknown.
This is a running driving restoration project, but could be made a survivor with some TLC. There is virtually no rust, wood rot or damage that can be found. The doors do not sag and close well. There is no evidence of accident damage. The interior is old, but in decent condition. We removed the make shift flex pipe on the exhaust. The starter is a later type, but works well.
