auction is for a very nice looking 1953 MGTD. These early Post-war MGs really stand out on the road and never fail to bring out some smiles and thumbs up from people when you are driving them around. They are a blast to drive and are still very capable of keeping up with traffic. The suicide doors are a feature that takes a little getting used to, but getting in and out of one of these is much easier than it looks and they will easily accommodate 6 footers even with the top up!
This stock example has been well maintained and exhibits good behavior when driven. It starts right up, shifts easily, steers with ease and comes to a halt like it is supposed too. One of the nice things about these cars is the simplicity. Owning one of these won't put you in the poor house. There is very adequate parts availability and most of the maintenance doesn't require a degree in rocket science. This MGTD is extremely rust free and appears to have a high degree of originality with all numbers matching! The single pipe stainless steel exhaust system should good for years to come.
When you open up the side curtains of the hood, it is strikingly tidy and well put together. The paint is driver quality with a few blemishes here and there, most notably a slight hit on the passenger running board (shown). The wooden dash is weather beaten and the fabric top exhibits some stains but it is solid. The plastic on two of the side curtains is cracked. The bright work is all in very good condition. We weren't able to have the car detailed prior to the photo shoot and it would benefit greatly from a day of beauty and some TLC. We didn't want to bog you down with pages of MGTD history and information, considering that most of the enthusiasts looking at this listing will know much more about this car than we do.
This car is currently registered and street driven. We treated ourselves to a little drive to check this vintage ride out and does this car ever put a big grin on your face! Most of the people that see it on the street have the exact same reaction. This MG performs well and most everything works as designed. It fires right up and there is no smoke, noises, leaks or other gremlins as it warms up nicely and settles right into a comfortable idle as you push the choke back in. At the time we shot the images most of the electronics were functioning correctly. This car is over 60 years old so please forgive us if we overlooked something minor.
As with all of our eBay Motors listings we try to let our high resolution photographs tell the story about the vehicles that we are selling. All of the pictures you see were just taken by us and we have shots from many angles including the exterior with top up and down, engine bay, full interior, and undercarriage. This unique roadster is a great looking and performing driver. You can use this car for show, as an advertising platform, daily fun driver or just for cruise night enjoyment! If you study our images very carefully, you will see exactly what this great little MGTD is all about.
