The MG led a charmed life sharing garage space with a Triumph TR4, TR3 and an Austin Healey. Needless to say none of the little British Cars covered many miles over the years. They were taken out occasionally and only on the nicest of days. The TF came from the long time owner's relative in the mid '70's. It had undergone a mild restoration which was done to a very high standard for that time period. This restoration work was performed by one of the top restorers for Henry Ford's Greenfield Village Automobile Museum restoration department. They have restored some of the rarest cars around the world and are known worldwide. It is believed to have been done in the late 60's or early 70's. As a testament to the owner, the MG was carefully preserved and looks pretty much as it did when he acquired it in the 70's. The odometer shows 25, 337 miles which I was told was correct. Time has truly stood still with this classic MG TF.
Under the hood: The MG is all original and correct to the best of my knowledge. Everything looks tidy and clean with no modifications. Has all the data plates showing that it is a matching numbers car. Has a good battery with no issues with the electrical system. The engine always starts easily with the pull of the choke. Even after sitting for a few months, it will fire right up. The engine sounds good with no strange noises. It does have a leaking wheel cylinder. New wheel cylinders and brake shoes are included with the MG. The carbs will need to be gone through due to sitting and lack of use. With the cold weather, I have just noticed that the rear carb has started to leak. Does leak some oil. Starter motor works fine as does the charging system. Exhaust system is good with no issues.
Body: The body is in beautiful condition as shown in the pictures. The body shows absolutely no rust or damage. Panel fit is excellent. Paint finish looks great including the area around the gas filler. The frame and underside are in excellent condition with no indication of rust or damage. The inside of the fenders look as nice as the exterior. When the car had been painted, it is evident that it was completely taken apart. The fender welting is in very nice condition and is not painted. The chrome is in fantastic condition. Both front and rear bumpers and windshield surround. Tail lights show some light pitting. The body shows some miscellaneous imperfections that one would expect from an older repaint. This consists of a few chips, and also some cracking in the paint near the hood side vent. Not very noticeable but worth mentioning. Hubcap for spare is not on securely. The grill is perfect. Windshield in good condition with no cracks or damage. Windshield to body gasket in very nice condition as well.
As shown in the pictures, it does come with a very nice convertible top and a full set of side curtains. The top and side curtains are over 40 years old and still look in near new condition. The fit is fantastic and it's always been stored with the top up and the curtains on. All of the windows are in great shape and are very clear.
The interior is in fantastic condition with no wear or damage at all. It looks close to new condition. Both of the seats and door panels are in great condition with no rips tears or signs of wear. The carpet is in great condition as well. with no sign of wear or damage. Period upgrades that include a Wood Steering Wheel and Wood Shift Knob. The dashboard was upgraded to cover the original dash which had openings on either side of the gauges. The quality of this work looks like it was done at the factory. Very nicely done. As noted in the interior pictures, it does have a nice heater installed which is a very rare option. Installation looks fantastic and correct. All electricals seem to be in working order. This includes the headlights and blinkers and license plate light. Heater fan works. Has manually operated wipers.
