This is an exceptional little MGTD. Having received a complete body off restoration approx. 10 years ago that included complete mechanical rebuilds of the number matching engine and transmission. No detail left out. New wiring harness, re-chromed bumpers, bezels and headlamp buckets. Everything still looks great and is holding up very well. It was used sparingly as the condition will confirm. Mostly for local shows and short rallies. I would describe it as a very strong driver and would be proud to take it to any MG club event or local car show.
I have driven it approx. 50 miles over the past 3 days, thanks to Global warming and 70 degree Ohio days in December, and can say it is truly a joy to drive. I have a small collection of British cars and I'm very familiar with all the strengths and weaknesses of these cars. This one starts right up the first time you pull the starter with only a slight choke. It accelerates very strong and pulls great. It handles as well as my later MGAs. It is very responsive and tracks perfectly straight at any speed. No odd shimmies or wobbles at 55-60. It holds good oil pressure even after a long drive and runs at the correct 80 - 85 degrees. It brakes straight and strong. It has a very handsome cloth top and brand new set of side curtains that fit better than any I've seen. Not that you'll ever use them but they are nice to have. The tires appear almost new. All the lights work as they should as do the added turn signals (a nice safety upgrade without altering the dash) .
This is an excellent original MG that has been lovingly enjoyed. Therefore you can find a few very minor imperfections. A few little nicks here and there and a small tear in the drivers seat, which I would use as an opportunity to upgrade the interior in the coming years. The seats do have nice firm support and feel as though the foam and frames were restored along with everything else. This is a detail often overlooked. The engine could benefit from a good cleaning and detail but I'll leave that to the next owner. Beyond that just get in and enjoy every minute of this wonderful little time machine.
The time to ask questions and complete inspections is prior to bidding. This auction has a very fair reserve and I fully intend for this car to sell. I have sold many classic cars through eBay over the years and everyone of them has resulted in a happy new owner with great feedback. I expect this sale to be no different. Many have been purchased prior to the end of the auction so don't be disappointed if I end this sale early. Almost half of them have ended up in Europe. I am happy to work with international buyers and shippers if you feel this car deserves to come home. Please call me with questions or to set up inspections at 614-352-3434. (Jeff)
Good luck!
