Description:
My cooper began running rough abruptly during normal driving. A professional mechanic(report in photo) diagnosed as broken exhaust valve in cylinder #2. Engine has not been torn down to assess degree of damage if any, to the cylinders. The cooper currently starts but does run rough. I have owned this cooper for 6 yrs and have thoroughly enjoyed the car. The body and interior are in great condition. With exception of the engine, everything works as it should.
With regards to the engine, with exception of the exhaust valve, and associated cylinder damage-if any, everything else under the hood functions as it should. Turbo, high pressure fuel pump, heating/cooling system, etc are functioning perfectly.
This Cooper S is a perfect candidate for a mechanics special. Too nice of a car to part out, yet professional mechanics' labor rates are too high to justify. Unfortunately for me, I'm not a mechanic. .. .
